I think most of use the two meanings interchangeably, ie. 1) engine critical or flame critical and 2) a sudden burst of damage that kills a squad member or multiple squad members instantly.

I just wish they could balance this goddamn game. Seriously, Soviets are way too good early, or rather, German squads get gibbed too easily. If you take few losses with Soviets and play super well, usually you are looking at a float of 600-800 MP midgame, just retarded. Having played a lot more 2v2s lately where I can get Panthers out, yeah, I now admit they're kinda ridiculous. Vet 2 is obscene, but very rare (unless they use Elite troops). SU85s can keep them at bay, but you really need to double team them with some guards unless you have an IS-2 or ISU. In which case in the game I just played, I counter with Tiger Ace, or a Tiger to support a Panther and act as a damage sink. I've said it before, but it bears repeating - you can't beat the M10 and Hellcats, and vet Airborne from vCOH to counter late Axis armor. Soviets need a mobile tank destroyer that you can micro and has the speed to chase damaged Panthers. I would like the game a lot more with M10s and no SU85s. In: COH2 Balance |

If they can't space out Ostheer squads more, they need to somehow nerf AOE and crits. Example: I ran a Pgren through a molotov, it lost a guy, then was fighting a 3-man PPSH. Somehow the PPSH were doing an insane amount of damage, and only 2 seconds passed (I timed it watching the replay) before they were down to 1 guy, and at that point I retreated, and they of course died on retreat. What I would really like to see, to make the manpower bleed a tad less, is 5 man Grenadier and Pgren squads with less health and damage. Just anything to reduce the AOE damage and crits. I like the 4 man squads, it feels right, it's in the grenadier tradition of vCOH, but the damage system just doesn't affect Axis the way it does Soviets. What I find most difficult is judging retreats, as others have said, because of the crit system you can suddenly find yourself late on a retreat, and this is much more of an issue with Ostheer. If you lose the first MG, you lose the game? Is that true? In my experience, even at the top level of play it happens, usually on retreat because of the length of time it takes to pack it up. So a player may see the flank opt to retreat instead of re-positioning and still lose the MG to a flame crit or whatever. Once a Sov player has your MG on the maps with cut-offs it will come back with 6 guys and park there with 3-4 SMG cons around it ![]() Now compare to that getting your cutoff camped on North Langres as Soviets - I have come back with multiple snipers from that kind of cutoff camp because I am causing him such manpower bleed that I can eventually still catch up and have enough AT out to deal with the PzIV or whatever. The T34s will probably outnumber your PziV 3-1 if you do manage to come back from that situation as Ostheer. Or Katy + SU85, multiple SU76s, SU85 + T34/85, same impossible situation. I think a solution could be to lower MP reinforce costs on Ostheer squads...Pgrens 45MP a dude, when they get wiped as easily as a gren squad from mortars, snipers, etc., is just too much. But generally the MP bleed as Ostheer is so severe that comebacks are very difficult. In: Replays |

Yeah, two con losses don't matter, unlike say a Pgren wipe or two gren wipes. That's Soviets for you, it's why I only play Ostheer 1v1 when I really want a challenge, it's a lot like vCOH, lose the first MG and you lose the game. If you have really good squad preservation as Sovs and take little MP loss then you end up floating a ton of MP midgame and can OP whatever, build whatever, make an artillery, etc. I don't think I've ever had that luxury playing Ostheer, the squads are just more expensive to reinforce. Ya, they weren't too hot I guess. It was a new team so for 10 games or so you have to do noob stomps, decided to try and make it interesting. I dunno, might work? 3v3 and 4v4 games are just spam fasts anyway, and two pios will beat a maxim if they get the flank, so why not? Then you just run away from the flamer cars if they are smart enough to make some and get your fast ACs... In: Replays |
Thread: Poll: Should Relic decide which maps we can play? 5 Mar 2014, 14:09 PM
What an extreme example of framing bias in your poll question. This should be deleted. The way you've phrased the responses is ridiculous, who is going to respond "I can't decide for myself." According to a Relic dev response, the balance team decided to remove them. Many of us noted that the maps removed were heavily vetoed. If you phrased your question as "Should Relic take map vetos into account when removing maps from automatch?" or "Should Relic remove maps from automatch if the balance team later decides they are not balanced?" then you will get entirely different results. http://community.companyofheroes.com/forum/company-of-heroes-2/company-of-heroes-2-general-discussion/26253-aftermath-patch-maps-are-unplayable In: COH2 Gameplay |

No, you can never have too many pios. Especially in 3v3 ![]() Good times, reminded me of some vCOH games. In: Replays |

No the current meta is shifting towards T4 as PzIV isn't that good vs infantry and the Ostwind is rather fragile anyway. The T34-85 obsession among Sov players with SU85 backup is kinda forcing it too. A bit like vCOh, you can hold out vs armor with those shreks and double pak if necessary. A lot of people routinely bring out Panthers, Panzerwerfers and even Brumbars. So Soviet meta may shift back toward KV8 to counter heavy T2... In: COH2 Balance |

Yeah you can get wipes with Ostheer micro, but Soviet abilities and units don't require that kind of micro, so that is by definition imbalanced. I think it needs to be toned down but I don't mind that kind of asymmetrical balance. Except for the flamer car, the Soviets no longer have a unit that can chase down retreating units like that and kill them. People mostly play Germans, because most people play 3v3 and 4v4s and the design of all those maps heavily favors the MG42 with its wide arcs of fire. If the maps were larger, and had fewer choke points, I suspect it would look different. And people just really like the Axis armor. What would you rather drive around in, an IS-2, or the Tiger, with its shape recognizable by even non-WWII buffs as a German tank? In: COH2 Balance |
