Mechanized actually isn't half bad as a commander and the Regular Sherman upgraded with the bulldozer can actually duel an OKW P4 pretty evenly. Which is great for it's cost. I generally don't care for the 76mm Sherman's though as I would rather get a Jackson for just 5 fuel and 20 manpower more.

It's good for creating obstacles which also provide heavy cover for your infantry, destroying fortifications, creating a shield and bombarding enemy positions. You don't need more than 1.

If you mean the 105mm sherman from the armor company i would advice you usually to skip it as 2 scotts can do a similar job from farther range and do not lock you into an commander but if you wanna do a fun but micro-intensive strategy as usf you can play m10 wolverines and m8 scotts and just spam a lot vehicles in the lategame depending on your needs obviously.
