Since people can't be bothered to read the date of the last post in quite a few threads, I think it'd be a decent idea to implement a warning to threads in which the last post is 3+ months old.
Something like before you hit post "The most recent post in this thread is 3 months old, perhaps you should start a new thread?".
Unless you all prefer having zombie threads every now and again.

You won't find any Moderator objecting to this proposal. 
However, to keep this in balance (sic), necros are comparatively rare. When they occur, they are mostly unwittingly triggered by a newer poster, who is reading through old threads.
There was one recent exception to this rule of thumb, who managed to necro 16 threads in short order, before he was handed a temporary ban to stop his juvenile activity - but he was a troll, who subsequently requested his account be deleted, which was done.
