I should have tested this by now but didn't and I'm at work so yeah, asking you guys.
Does the rally point affect from which off map spawn point the unit will spawn at ?

Yes, units will arrive at the closest spawn point.

I was pretty sure that was the case, but I'm pretty sure I remember a time where it didn't work, the reason behind my question but I'll do some test this week.

It works. On certain maps if you capture points right next to your opponent's base and you call in a unit, your unit spawns from their side of the map if the rally point is close to it.
