But the weapon team dies right when the conscripts start joining it,
All six conscripts die immediately. Enjoy your double squad loss.
Conscript merge into dying maxim : Both dead.

It is infact working as intended.
You're merging into a unit thats supposed to be "retreating" at that exact moment when you merge,so they all retreat
