i guess you've already tried all the obvious tech support solutions, including the on-off switching advice. but just in case, reverting a graphic driver or windows update might sometimes do the trick (the latter worked for me at least once when coh2 didn't want to start at all after a windows update).
as an addendum to the subscriptions advice, there was a great tutorial vid by tightrope a while back on how to make sure to really get rid of all subcribed content (just deleting the my games folder apparently doesn't cut it).
