The Legend of the Tiger Ace
A hard battle is waged between Russian forces defending Moscow and the German invaders intent on reaching the Kremlin. After a fierce first stage, the Germans begin succumbing to gradual losses, and the Russians begin putting the final touches on what should, by all accounts, have been a decisive victory.
Commander Wishfire of the German forces begins to write his last will and testament, knowing a merciless baserape is imminent. But then, just as all hope seems lost, he receives a phone call in his bunker. An assistant tells him it is coming from the Wolf's Lair itself. His hands still shaking from the anxiety of his impending death, Wishfire places the phone to his ear.
"This is Wishfire. We are overrun. The battle is lost."
The assistant who had handed him the phone watches with curiosity as the face of his commander turns ghostly. He hears the faint echo of a familiar voice emanating from the earpiece, and notices Wishfire swallow with difficulty, as though he can hardly form an utterance.
At last, his mouth opens, and with a quivering voice, he speaks:
"Yes, my fuhrer."
A few more words are spoken, and Wishfire hands back the phone. He stares out into nothingness, contemplating something, with a glimmer of determination arising in his eyes. He then speaks to the aide:
"Tell Commander Magier to retreat everything. The fuhrer has promised us ... some sort of weapon. A tank the likes of which has never been seen on the battlefield before. It is en route as we speak. We are to support it with engineers and infantry and continue the advance."
"A tank, sir?"
"In an underground laboratory, the greatest engineering minds in Europe were said to be working on something which could decide the war, but engineering it would take a monumental amount of resources. I'd heard rumors that the project was stopped. But apparently ..."
"Sir, the enemy has us encircled with heavy armor, and their infantry is at our doorstep! A tank cannot help us, no matter how strong!"
"This one can."
And thus, the legend of the Tiger Ace was born.
