Does anyone feel that gameplay is cramped in 2v2?
The meta-game issue where every game ends with an ISU-Elefant + ATG slugfest might partly be because flanking is next to impossible on maps like Crossing in the Woods, Semois.
The maps are narrow and full of pathing-killers. Maneuverability is massively reduced. This means for example that the t34s speed can't really be utilised. Why trade in armour for speed when speed has so little effect on gameplay? It should be a flank-tank but flanking is too risky.
If the maps were wider + less choked with obstacles, it would be more feasible to make a two-pronged attack from 2 different directions to make the elefant or ISU turn and expose its rear armour. But currently they only need to turn a few degrees. access to the flanks is always through a choke-point full of mines and panzerfausts/AT grenades.
So our option is always full-frontal attack, which means elefant/ISU. Weaker but faster units don't cut it.
If there were wider maps, there would be more options for macro and micro for both armies and less reliance on big units that can sit in one spot and dominate. It would also make both those super tanks more difficult to use because of their movement speed. They could be countered by clever macro/micro and strategic positioning.
Anyone agree?

Thread: This patch killed Katyusha and Werfer13 May 2014, 16:56 PM
Katyusha does seem more avoidable. Once the first barrage has hit (usually with large spread) you can avoid the area. But to be fair, you're forced to retreat all your infantry. The cooldown is what killed the Nwerfer for me. So long... Logically it seems that with less rockets, the cooldown should be shorter, not longer. I don't feel you get a good return on the investment. Isn't the Katyusha rocket-spread only an issue when it fires at max range? Doesn't the accuracy increase when fired from closer in? I thought it did but if someone has a clip of it being v. inaccurate at closer range, please show. Stonethecrow01 - "Tell me this, If an opponent has a panzerwerfer and fires it with a shift command to reposition it back to his base after each barrage ... how do you kill it?" How is this different from Katyusha? Soviets also have SHIFT-move and Katyusha fires from further away. In: COH2 Balance |

I wasn't faulting Barton or his strat, I think he's right, it's stronk (and doesn't involve the T1 scout + flamer which has spoiled many games for me). I'm just saying it's a shame that the game favours a single-unit approach. Anyway, I'll keep those comments for the balance section. DavidD - you're right that you could do pretty well with 4 rifles in CoH1 but I don't think it's as feasible to win from early to late-mid game in coh1 with just riflemen. MP drain, Fuel for upgrades, the MG42 more effective, German T3 hypereffective vs riflemen. What I mean is a riflespam strat was more counterable/punishable than constrat is in coh2. And about SC - yeah, you could spam but the punishability of spam in coh1 was what set it apart from the blob+click games. Barton, any suggestions for an Ostheer counter to this strat? In: Guides |

When I saw the BO: CONS CONS CONS CONS CONS HT+FLAMER I thought Barton was writing a parody. The joy of CoH vs other strategies is that spamming just one unit type isn't viable. This strat shows that is no longer the case "The burst of the double ROKS-3 flame throwers in conjunction with the speed of the M5 Half-track will allow you to easily chase and wipe these squads on retreat" Because CoH2 needs more easy squad wipes? Thread: Will Steve Blum return for Western Front Armies?12 May 2014, 14:27 PM
Does anyone think the current German voice actors for Commander and Grens sound like old men with dysentery? Only the pios sound German really. Coh-1 guy was much better. Although the German phrases there were also mistranslated and mispronounced. Also, the soviet voice actors aren't Russians. They mispronounce everything. They seemed to go more for comedy and ignored drama. In: COH2 Gameplay |
