Thread: Flame Halftrack17 Sep 2018, 23:41 PM
People are surely overreacting. Not many players can use flame ht to the same level as the ones we watched in the tourney. And actually, on the top level it works exactly as it should, coh1 style: m3 < 222 & 251 < t70 < puma < t34 That is why I think there is no real problem with potency of 251. The only change I would support, if any, is to reduce its damage on the move, so it needs a little more time to wipe on retreat. Right now it is better at chasing retreating squads than T70. Also, while we are at halftracks, soviet M5 still needs some ballance love. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: The Dilemma with Paratroopers14 Sep 2018, 22:52 PM
Cheesy or not, thanks to that ability, they have their own place among usf units. They are pretty much in the ballanced state: not part of the meta but powerful enough to create effective builds. Of course, they can be redesigned to some other purpose, but question is whether it is worth to fix what is not broken. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: The Dilemma with Paratroopers14 Sep 2018, 22:18 PM
Thompson paras are build exclusively to use the ability that increases the damage output of their thompsons, providing very easy wipes. This is what compensates for all their drawbacks. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: How exactly do cover-based damage bonuses work?12 Sep 2018, 23:47 PM
Of course accurancy can be over 100%. The final hit is calculated depending on a random number from 0 to 1. If the number is smaller than the accurancy, the bullet hits. So if the final accurancy is over 100%, the bullets will simply always hit. You can ask now, why do I wan't my infantry to have over 100% accurancy? That is because most models have a stat called recived accurancy that lowers the accurancy of the shooter. If the final accurancy of the weapon is 80% and RA modifier of the target is 80% then the chance to hit is 64%. If the accurancy of the weapon is 100%, it will be 80%. But if it is 125%, then the result will be that you always hit. RA is also modified by retreat status and building cover. There are many more things that affect it as well. There is a chunky fire on the move debuff. The bigger your initial accurancy is, the smaller the effect of that debuff is going to be. And this is only an example. To be fair though, 125% is probably not the initial accurancy of the weapon, but a multiplicative bonus to that accurancy that you get in cover. Pretty much only snipers actually get accurancy over 100%. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: Should the M5 HT get some balance love?12 Sep 2018, 18:05 PM
I think the difference in performance between the two is overestimated. It is of course worse, but it is also much cheaper in fuel and thus comes earlier. I would love to use M5s in 1v1s, even as non-meta strategy, but they need just a tiny bit of ballancing touch for that. |
Thread: Should the M5 HT get some balance love?12 Sep 2018, 17:59 PM
Yeah, the smoke is what makes the huge difference. The problem is that, by design, soviet vehicles have no smoke on them, so it must be something else. Either HP buff or old-t70 style small repair on the go. |
Thread: Should the M5 HT get some balance love?12 Sep 2018, 16:52 PM
As far as I remember the teachings of cruzzi, there are 4 factors that affect performance of AA gun: 1. The probability to shoot down with a bullet (0 for bofors) 2. The RoF 3. The range of AA weapon - different from the range against ground targets 4. The turning speed of the weapon. All of them affect the performance pretty significantly and they also determine the way a gun should be used. For example quickly turning MGs can be used right where the plane is, but guns with more range and less turning speed should be positioned further from the planes or they will just rotate not able to track target and thus not fire at full potential. I think the ballance reasoning for ostwind performance is simply that ostheer right now has the most sources of non-specialised AA. The popularity of 222s and tanks with pintle is so high that buffing ostwind AA could actually upset the ballance in the skies. Tbh though, I think this thread is about the M5 ![]() |
Thread: Should the M5 HT get some balance love?12 Sep 2018, 16:32 PM
It is true it is outshined by the T70 entirely, but the redeeming factor of the M5 is it is the best AA in the game. Since AA ability is *cough* poorly *cough* designed by RoF alone, the M5 which has insane RoF with the meatgrinder upgrade is the best. Even if we nerfed the t70, WHICH WE'RE NOT FOR SOME FUCKING REASON BECAUSE 85 SIGHT RANGE AT VET 3 IS BALANCED it would still be outshined because the t70 is more durable and can engage light armor if need be, where the m5 meatgrinder cannot. AA is not dictated by RoF alone. Each AA weapon also has different chance of shooting down the plane with one bullet. If what you are saying was true, the pintle MGs would be better at AA than ostwind and yet they are not. As for the topic, there is an easy way to make M5 viable. Give it 20 hp more. Then nerf its penetration and dps. That way it is not going to be dead the moment it sees an AT gun, but it will also struggle against shrecks, fausts and other LVs like 222 or luchs. Right now it is very hard to judge ballance wise as it is pretty much OP against infantry and 222, but it also can't stand a single pak on the field. |
Thread: Soviet Mortar Flare11 Sep 2018, 18:30 PM
The fact that soviet mortars used to have precision strike that would kill a badly positioned (bunched up) axis mortar, pak or mg is one thing. The other is that initially all of these weapons used to have 3 men squads, so the mortar could kill them in one go even if they were correctly positioned. And it is not that soviets were even OP at that point ![]() ![]() In: COH2 Balance |
