Oh fuck that. Nobody would give a shit about a remastered CoH2 on the same old shitty engine. Ehh, nobody apart from the skeleton crew that keeps playing CoH2 for hours every day and will do so for the next 20 years.
That's a pill which is hard to swallow to some here. |
MP hasn't been Relic's focus for those 3 months, so I don't know how it can be qualified as dead unless unborn things are dead.
Read the post I'm responsing to?
The part where he ask about Iron Harvest? |
Coh3s issues are far from unfixable though.
A good interface, friends menu, player names, replay function and ranked mode should be very easy to fix and would go a long way.
The same can be said for fixing the balance. If call in units were bound to tech a lot of the current balance issues would be fixed.
The disturbing thing is that they haven't fixed those easy yet significant thigns three months into launch.
As much as I dislike employees being fired, even a small team should be able to fix the major issues fast.
Its not a problem of being fixable or not, its a leadership and priorities problem.
You can't take an RTS game and turn it into life service.
You can't prioritize monetizing the game before basic, staple QOL features even make it into the game.
You can't expect retention if you hype up console release of that unfinished game before showing people that things they ask for are actually in active development.
No one is stupid enough to believe in roadmaps to nowhere anymore.
Is iron harvest a good time sink? I need a backup when coh3 folds in 6 months. As lonely old gamer manning my boring shop, i go back home to play coh2 regularly. It helps to sharpen my mind and dexterity, but i see an end of an era. I am loss which time sink to switch over?
I hear Diablo4 is coming but it is too clicky and monotone IIRC
Campaigns are fine.
MP is dead, tho might be a bit alife right now. |
I have no hope left, this is the end of CoH, imo. At least, I do not know any positive examples how studios(or even software development companies in general) overcome such issues. Only thing I can imagine for this game to live if they let community mod freely.
I've seen layoffs like that first hand, 20% of company was let go(the publisher I worked at), they fucked suddenly 100 people while boasting about great financial situation just weeks earlier.
Most of the people who were let go found much better jobs relatively fast, publisher itself also changed direction a bit and are doing ok now. Tho people who remained had massive workloads for quite some time.
Shortly after I've decided to look for greener pastures, because it wasn't 1st layoff and I wasn't going to wait and find if they are going to go for 3rd one or not, they have proven to be irresponsible at top level. |
Hiring for diversity instead of merit didn't paid off, eh, relic?
How can it not be empty words? Relic strung along Dawn of War III players with promises of an "update" for two months before it was revealed that the "update" was that the game was being euthanized. They've done this whole thing before, with the exception that this time their survival as a company is in jeopardy.
Well, one way or another, we'll know before the end of the year if it'll stand up or gets scrapped up. |
So how do we do that? We merge them using hadron collider?
We are on a budget and just put it at the front of 2 trucks and crush them together?
We just melt them and mold them into one?
Or we just crack them both into a bowl, scramble them and heat them up until firm on a pan? |
Durability primarily, I've found that its incredibly hard to punish units that overextend, or even bothering to focus fire retreating units in the first place, which makes the edge case units that absolutely destroy on retreat (currently the dak 8rad with mg upgrade, riflemen with bars) absurdly strong while making everything else look awful.
I find that to be faction specific.
Overextend against wehr? Pff, so what.
Overextend against recon tommies? You've lost that squad, whatever it was.
I'd argue the retreat modifiers make rapid firing direct weapons much more deadly for retreat kills in general rather then these edge cases really shining, even that 8rad needs to chase for considerable time before making a kill on relatively healthy last model or two. |
Wtf bro have you even played Generals & Zero Hour
I've played Generals, but I'm too geriatric to remember more then putting bunkers on chinese super tanks. |
I have no idea why this discussion has devolved into relic's wokeness, there is literally nothing in the game, especially in multiplayer that you can really point to as 'woke.'
There does not need to be anything in game really.
Relic hiring for diversity instead of merit alone can impact quality of the game in extremely negative way and since they are canada based, which is one of the most obsessed countries on the planet regarding that, I can assure you, they are wasting a lot of time on that bullshit they could have dedicated to improving the game itself. |
Which is also why I concluded that they will probably need to rebuild it from their hardcore fan base - the others are gone anyway.
Something tells me they do not give a shit about us and expect genderfluid gen-z zoomers to be interested in a dying genre in historical settings they know nothing about nor are interested in.
I would love to just shit talk or talk out of my ass here, but that last survey questions are extremely telling.
They didn't even had "gaming" listed on their hobby list, they give no fuck about gamers. We're drones for them who supposedly swallow every shit they throw at as, because we're "hardcore fans" and there is no need to appease us. |
