Thread: Knight Cross to beat Shock Troops! 12 Mar 2014, 01:19 AM If you really want to beat Shock Troops with CoH1 units, go for the Stormtroopers with 150 Mun for double StG Upgrade. Quad StG Stormtroopers were unrivaled in their infantry-killing ability, nothing beat them. They also had 90 health when the median was closer to 60, and their armour ontop of that protected them further (it was not the armour we have in CoH2, it was much more sophisticated). I have no doubt they'd tear Shock Troops to pieces, they were literally the Übermensch. In: COH2 Gameplay

I've never seen Osttruppen from Relief Infantry (even though I used it 3 times, hence my opinion that it is a worthless waste), but in Worldbuilder there are only 2 Squads for Osttruppen: "ostruppen_squad" and "ostruppen_squad_mp". The first squad is the SP variant, and the second is the MP variant, they're kept separate so balance changes don't break SP. If there were another variant, they'd be in the 'ostruppen' folder, but there isn't anything there. I did not misspell these, they're spelt that way in worldbuilder, so that's on Relic! RC gives you max 2 conscripts for 160 ammo. I'd say both abilities are fine. I don't know, they just seem way too niche, you need the planets to align to get your money's worth from them. Since most of the trees including them are moderately munitions heavy, and Germans are munitions heavy without any doctrines, I just don't use them as much as I'd like to. And for 120 Mun, it's anything but a relief. In: COH2 Balance

There's a chance you'll blow 120 - 160 Mun with nothing to show for it. And during the active duration, you're encouraged to take casualties, in a game based all around unit preservation. RC also gives significantly better units dispite being only 40 Mun more. For those reasons, both need to be reworked imo. I'd consider using the Riegel more if you could build it with something other than the Half-Track, but I'm not keep on driving my Half-Tracks into Tank territory to shit out a mine. But I honestly hate Ostheer AT mines in general. Yes, more damage, but I pay twice the price and they don't stop Infantry. The Healing Ability is underperforming imo, if I'm paying to heal one squad, I at least expect it to bring them to full health. It doesn't... In: COH2 Balance

Usually one sticky is enough to engine damage a King Tiger. Making AT nades weak against heavy armor in this game was a design mistake. On the other hand, in CoH1 the target needed to be in range for the entire animation, or your guys would just walk back toward the vehicle and try again (often taking casualties). Aside from that, PE's AT Grenade didn't give engine damage and it had a fixed trajectory, if the vehicle moved while it was in the air, it hit the ground. The Panzerfaust also didn't give engine damage, and there was a good chance it would even miss. CoH2's infantry AT abilities are significantly stronger because it almost always does engine damage, and you only need to be in the range for the animation to play, after that it's homing and has unlimited range. In: COH2 Balance

Conscripts merging into a squad will gain whatever weapons that squad is using. If you merge them with Shock Troops they get PPSh's, if you merge them with a weapon crew they get really crappy support rifles, if you merge them with Penal Troops they get SVT's. Works the same on every merge-able squad except Ostheer Infantry, where they don't get a weapon (presumably weren't programmed for it). Perhaps the best use of Penals though is to crew an MG or other Crew Weapon with them. They get 4 - 5 SVT Rifles depending on the weapon. A fresh Grenadier Squad flanking a Penal MG Crew would have a very nasty surprise waiting for them, as the 5 SVT's have almost double the DPS of a new Gren. In: COH2 Gameplay

Still, calling them "Relief Infantry" is a bit silly when the cost is anything but a relief. But that's just semantics. In: COH2 Balance

On a large scale this meant stationing them at the part of the line most likely to take heavy casualties. On the small scale it meant dressing them up in dark uniforms (during winter) and parading them ahead of the main infantry force. In: COH2 Gameplay

It's probably the worst thing you could do with your Munitions imo. It's even worse with "Relief Infantry". 120 Mun for an Osttruppen Squad that I only get if I lose 4+ models? I'd rather buy Panzerschrecks. In: COH2 Balance
