I agree, I can understand it being a kind of necessary evil for some weapons like mortar etc, but stuff like call ins with 'Random Amount of experience' really rubs me the wrong way. It's just introducing a dice roll that you can't control and where it's not really necessary. |
I've never found the FHQ to be particularly useful to be honest. You can't repair it, so once the opponent sees it it's going to be mortar barraged all day and all night.
You can't retreat to it, so your going to be babysitting it an awful lot, and you can't repair it either, which means that it's relatively easy to wipe out.
I can see that the bonuses it gives are pretty good, but it's really at the expense of either Molotovs/AT Grenades or teching up, which means your options for building are quite limited and delayed.
Maybe it's better in team games than 1v1 though? |
As the publisher, isn't Sega responsible for marketing moreso than Relic?
I do worry about the future of the game, while it seems to me like WFA brought in some new players (just anecdotal, been easier to find games since the expansion), I don't hear an awful lot about the game outside of this forum.
I get the feeling that something big is in the pipeline which Sega will put some oomph behind to grow the playerbase (I think War-spoils and free commander rotation is just an opening act for some big change) and that's when we'll see a real push. |
Thanks so much for the replies guys, I swear I had no idea you could target an enemy like normal with the Sturmtiger. I'm almost certain I tried doing that at one point and it didn't work, has it possibly changed in a patch at some point? Maybe I just didn't realise.
I think I'm going to have to play around with this unit a lot more, I haven't been able to touch the game for nearly a week, so I'll have a binge this weekend and try out the Sturmtiger for a few matches.
Does anyone use it in conjunction with the IR scanner? It seems like that would be a good combination to get max range. Although I believe that you can't target units via IR scanner sight? |
I should clarify first, I play 1v1 exclusively (only because I find it hard to co-ordinate time for team-mates and always prefer single player multiplayer).
So, the Sturmtiger. Does anyone find this unit useful? I've tried building it a few times early on, but find that I'm almost always better off waiting a little bit longer and getting a Panther or some other unit instead.
It just seems like the surprisingly short range, super slow firing time and super vulnerability to reload makes it very... unusual and I can't find a real good opportunity to use it unless I'm winning and can afford a parade vehicle.
I watched a replay recently where Cruzz was able to force retreats with it, just by it's presence, which is very handy, but at the same time, it just seems like I would be better off with a Walking Stuka if the enemy is heavy infantry/sedentary (since it's longer range and harder to see coming) or a Panther for general usage.
Infantry can almost always retreat before the shell hits, and vehicles unless they are super duper engine damaged won't get hit by it either. So how do you guys use it, if at all? |
I don't play the single player, and won't be playing this, but I'm all for new content. Relic has been supporting MP so heavily recently (WFA was a huge update) so I don't mind them giving SP some love too.
I thought this would be the new Italian and Australian armies expansion. |
In terms of multiplayer content, I wasn't expecting much. WFA only just got released which was a massive update for multiplayer, what more could they really have for us at this early stage?
I was expecting mainly single player content or maybe something like a new match type or some kind of change to matchmaking or something at most. |
Woah, I did not know that. Very handy information. I'll try to get eyes on targets whenever I use howitzers from now on. |
I'm interested to see who the new commanders are, although I find myself ignoring them in favour of my old favourites week after week. I feel like I've still got much to learn with the existing ones before trying out new ones.
Maybe it's to avoid the temptation of buying more stuff... |

Button: Negatable, does no damage itself, range limit, easy to accidentally cancel, vehicles can still move at a very slow pace
Target weak point: Best thing ever
Yeah, I've no qualms with this
Now that you mention it, is Target Weak Point fixed yet? Or is it intentionally aimed at a certain spot and not at a unit? |
