1v1 is a completely separate beast from the rest of the game. If you're not having fun playing ring-around-the-rosie with cap points and dealing with stupid cheese strats that only work in 1v1, you can always join the 95% of the playerbase by playing 2v2 and larger
But 2v2 and larger players are always complaining about equally bad things, imbalance and "Super Heavy Tanks: The Game"
Personally I find the game fun for what it is. I'm not a great player (look at my player card and laugh if you want) but I play it how I want for fun, and tend to find my niche amongst other players. If I wanted to get good and play this game more seriously then, yeah I would be annoyed since there is currently a handful of viable strategies that dominate everything. I guess it depends on what you want to get from this game.
I hope that a patch does fix this up, because I feel it's got potential to be a really fun and competitive game, they just need to open up more options I think.
As others have said, this is a common thing in a lot of games and genres. I used to play King of Fighters XIII a fair bit and enter tournaments on a regular basis, and the game has reached a stage where it's devolved into certain characters and gameplay styles dominating all the tournaments. I've since stopped playing the game competitively since I don't have as much fun with it as I used to. Virtua Fighter on the other hand, I still find to be a pleasure to play even at higher levels. I want CoH2 to become more like that, where there are lots of viable options at high level play.
