Am I the only one feeling quite disappointed after playing the public alpha?

I thought it was DOW 3 all over again. They even managed to get the shite graphics from DOW 3 into Age of Empires 4.

How did they think that made sense in any possible universe. I can't even begin to imagine what the thought process was besides release busted unit and sell it for monetary gain.

They had to make money selling DLC so they often released DLC that had some broken things in it. They then tried to diversify Commanders to change playstyles and many players who didn't have these commanders felt the game was pay to win though honestly the best commanders in the game were the stock ones, nevertheless rather than reflect upon their own skill they blamed the Commanders and they stopped producing new commanders/content for the game.

Some ideas I did like that could have worked if they were implemented into the base faction. Such as Whermacht having the ability to purchase veterancy on units from the Elite Troops Commander (Tiger Ace).

One of the things that annoys me the most about COH2 is how everyone has the same veterancy system except for OKW. In COH1 every faction had unique vet, even if they were similar there was uniqueness/flavor added with each faction.

For example COH 1 Brits had really strong infantry but they could only go Vet1/Vet2 based on the officers they had. So you focus the officers and the infantry blob became significantly weaker.

Would have been nice if COH2 had unique veterancy. Early on it seemed like that might have been planned but scrapped since the early patches Whermacht gained increased veterancy based on damage, while Soviets gained more Veterancy from taking damage. So Conscripts for example were able to vet up quicker the more you used them as meat shields and were less reliant on kills.

Somewhere along the way that got changed.

Ostheer gets the shit end of the stick with mines

They actually have the most diverse mine set up.

They have S-Mines, AT Mines and regular 30 munition mines (Halftrack) available non stock and Reigel Mines with Doctrine. Soviets Only have 30 munition mines (The Doctrinal Mines available to them are a waste of ammo), UKF has 30 munition mines and USF has crap stun mines and the M20 AT Mine.

As far as mines go Whermacht are living the good life.

Can someone explain to me why S-mine field need a goddamn sign ? It ruins the surprise effect and makes the whole thing pointless in 80% of cases, especially since a light vehicle makes a short work of it.

Whermacht can use regular mines via Halftrack if you are unhappy with S-Mine Fields. Either way S-Mines having a sign makes no difference in how it is used. Think of it like explosive sandbags. You use it for defense to cover your MG. Say for example your MG-42 is in a house, S-mines can cover you from side flanks and also cover you from smoke pushes as well. In addition to that it allows you space/time to retreat without getting chased unless its from a vehicle. It serves a different role/purpose than Soviet mines.

Soviets are the least Ammo Dependent faction in the game (unless going for Penal PTRS builds) even though they will float ammo more so than other factions and will use mines more offensively as a munition sink.

The 120MM mortar is not that good in my personal opinion mostly due to the 2CP requirement and its very slow rate of fire.

Getting 2 regular mortars will outperform a single 120 and you can get them much sooner.

Also Shock Troops are amazing when combined with 80MM Mortar Smoke and are a better investment and will have more of an impact on a match than the 120MM mortar would during that phase of the game.

Its not a bad unit by any means but it is not OP either.

Classic Relic. We dont have 30 minutes to fix the garbage match making on our server but lets waste a week making a video about how cool our stuff is for the lemmings ready to spend money on our broken trash.

Agreed. They launched COH 2 in a broken state and the game has been in a barely playable state throughout its history. At the moment playing anything but 1v1 is a mistake due to all the chinese/asian trolls flooding the COH 2 multiplayer servers that love to leave or act extremely toxic in game.
