Are we really having this discussion again after so many months?
Maybe is time to face the truth? If you're unable to utilise MG42 to its full potential maybe the problem lies within you and not the unit design?
Seriously L2P.
Easy to say l2p without any arguments. the disparity between the use and worth of both mg's is rather colossal. if the maxim can simply ram itself into a mg42 and win you know you have a balance issue.
You can't have a maxim in not-set-up mode. The maxim (and DHSK) always automatically set up once they stop moving. This makes the bigger arc of the MG42 more than just a small advantage in a variety of situations.
Why does this matter when you can pack up your hmg instantly and redeploy under 2 seconds against an enemy that doesn't have oorah? in most cases the larger arch is useless. if you use a hmg you need to identify flanking routes and cut-off points. and very simply put the maxim can just as easily cut of any point in the 1vs1 map as mg42. and has better suppression to boot.
4 grens are too much on a small map against maxims. mg42 is crucial against holding gfround on this map against every tactic, even m3 since it has decent penetration now. just always keep it in cover and let the maxim run in to you. I prefer getting a mortar and sniper against this.
This video shows several times that a maxim can engage the mg42 head on and win. grens are always a valid choice no matter what strat the soviet player uses and i would not use the mg42 against this strat as a combination of maxims and at guns continually removed mg42 teams from the field.
In fact the Op lost the game because his mg42 didnt do much.
i use 4 grens as the foundation of my army and then decide what happens next
Last night I was playing 2v2 randoms when I versed RtN Milk Please! and Jesulin. I knew it was going to be a tough match, but I wasn't expecting the cheapest of all strategies, the classic Maxim HMG spam followed by AT gun spam.
Yes I lost, but I didn't feel too bad at the end considering I was versing an AT team loaded with two top players, with a random on my team. On top of that Milk Please wins with a pretty effortless strategy although it seems like I had better micro than he did.
Can you guys please criticize my performance? What I failed to do, what I should've done, big mistakes. Please keep it nice
I made a mortar, but like that did anything... Mortars need to be more accurate for aggressive tactics like these... maybe Sniper? I made a MG42 but that didn't supress the Maxims did it? I even managed to take one of his maxims but his friend Jesulin comes out of nowhere and disrupts me
Just when I thought I got a hold of the fuel for a tad bit...
Thanks guys,
North
The first mistake is that you used g43 on this map. this is long range territory so grens should be equipped with lmg's /
Snipers rule supreme on this map.
Maxims, while powerful early game , are not useful late game when armor starts to roll in. play defensively . you tried to take both fuel points while you should focus on taking one fuel point and 2 victory points.
generally poor use of tactical manoeuvre(you could have easily used this to move grens to the north side of the north side of the trees then attack him from the side). and little to no use of riflenades. While mg42's are useful i always suggest to get 4 grens first and see what the soviets are doing as the mg42 performs poorly against this strat.
And I can see peoples points about Tigers being more cost effective, which in a way yes they are, the armor is (or should be) a little thicker, but it lacks the speed of the Panther, which is why I like the Panther first, if you get it in a bad spot, you can get out, and in my build, get out with PAK cover and punish over extending enemy tanks. Tigers, not so much, especially if you get Engine crit'd.
Safe for speed the tiger is vastly superior to the panther in nearly every way. it starts with the fact that tigers now regularly cripple soviet infantry as each shot can kill up to 4 man in a squad. When it comes to fighting medium tanks the tiger is way ahead of the panther. a tiger can easily take 3 t-34 like a boss because it can survive 3 more penetrating shots has a higher rof and much better armor. the panther can be destroyed by 2 t-34's if your not careful. the tiger can solo the is-2 ,fat chance with that if you use the panther. only the su85 and isu152 needs to be flanked (and depending on the map this doesn't always apply to the tiger as he can tank the damage like a boss) but both have heavy crush and the su85 and isu152 are simply to slow to avoid a flanking tiger or panther.
All the tactics you have given is what any decent player would have done.In short you have said nothing new. So it indeed boils down to cost effectiveness. is it worth it to get to tier 4 and buy this very overpriced heavy tank? no is not and tier 3 units are simply much more cost effective.
i have times where i had my sniper in full cover and shot at a russian one. b4 he got back into cover, he was countersniped. i have sunk in few incendiary rounds into sniper and from what i recall, all of which only killed one. more oftenly, the russian sniper disappeared back into cover before finishing the whole incendiary process, which requires reloading b4 even aiming, not to mention its costliness. also the counterpartner russian flare at vet 0 lasts longer than it takes it to recharge, revealing a large radius of enemy defenses without recon plane that may get shot down. the whole sprint-away-and-shoot thing is faster and easier than to sink in an incendiary round in, due to which russian units CAN still move while being stunned. the sprint away can also tactically retreat russian sniper into a herd of cuntscripts without having to fully retreat into base.
Its simple :dont use the your own sniper to counter the soviet one . The last patch the soviet sniper took a beating when it comes to its effectiveness. not only can the soviet sniper no longer hide in a scout car the overall dps of the grens at long range is now so high that they can easily kill a soviet sniper at long range. combine this with the buffs to the scout car 222 i dont see why your complaining about the soviet one.
In fact the german sniper is just sexy this patch. it doesnt have the impact that the soviet sniper has that it forces squads to retreat but properly managed they are just a massive mp drain to the soviets and snipers with 70 kills are not uncommon.
Maxim may have aoe suppression to suppress multiple squads but its cone of fire is so small that good luck catching those multiple squads in it. Unless of course you play on fairly low rank and blobing is a common thing.
I usually have to reposition Maxim at least once to catch another German squad closing in from the flank or outside of Maxims con of fire.
That being said I would like to see 0.5 second set up time decrease for MG42.
Of course you have to reposition your maxim. Not a problem for the maxim however. and having more then 1 infantry unit in one place is part skill and part map design. unless your playing on very open maps with few chokepoints "blobbing" does happen.
Don't forget it has a larger suppression AoE. A MG42 will suppress a squad AND the one next to it. The maxim can only suppress multiple squads if they overlap.
not true. the maxim do have the aoe to suppress multiple squad. unless your fighting in a very open environment this problem really doesn't matter
Hey's a few arguments to pollute your forum world then. German MG has superior suppression based on my experience (I regularly watch German units survive 2 bursts of a Maxim unsuppressed at max range, it takes one burst and a bit for the MG42 to suppress) , and a vastly superior arc. It's damage I can't comment on but you don't buy MGs for damage. As above, the only inferior aspect to it is the setup.
Do not lecture me Jaigen on nebulous arguments!
Good now i can easily destroy your arguments by flat out telling you that he maxim does more suppression then the mg42. its in the coh 2 stats if you like to look it up. So what your telling is nonsense.
Can't understand where this MG42 is worse than maxim idea came from. It seems to be superior in everything but setup. I've just had 2 games of using it as Germans and its worked marvellously.
If you cannot make a statement without backing it up with a few arguments then dont bother posting mate. your just polluting the forums otherwise.
