If you were the one I automatched on semoisky winter, my squads were instantly raped by the is2 as soon as they were looked at and it cost me the game. that matches my experience vs an is2 in other games as well.
edit: Soviet units just have a very solid synergy to them. German units are pretty much generalists in all tiers vs soviet generalist spam (conscripts) with very powerful specialist units making up the doctrinal or later tiers. Its not hard to park a zis or su85 and micro your scripts around and they will all be effective. I don't think its any individual thing, but overall the soviet faction is stronger because of the advantage these specialist units such as an su85 or sniper give when used by a good player.

Say wait, wasn't the IS-2's scatter drastically reduced 2-3 patches ago? German tanks most certainly dont 2-3 shot any soviet tank; ignoring vet3 and maybe an elefant, which is rare enough in 1v1s. Soviet tank survivability is not an issue in my eyes. T34s come quickly (often with a t70) and are meant to overwhelm not overpower.... except the t70 which is still annoyingly powerful for how fast it comes out. But I digress. The T-34 can deal nice damage to a p4, will clear the field of any vehicles weaker than a p4 or stug, runs over infantry like theres no tomorrow, and does pretty well vs infantry. Its a much more well rounded tank after the latest buffs. Su85s are very survivable because of their range. Range > armor anytime because you can simply kite. Its the same reason a sniper is useful vs panzergrens with good micro. Regarding the shock doctrine tanks, I have been seeing a much larger use of IS2s, which I believe are quite powerful now. KV8s which has been long established to be OP in the hands of a decent player. Cheaper shocks and more useful incendiary barrages vs support teams with the new damage penalties are flavor of the month for soviet meta IMO. I don't agree the faust is any better than an AT nade. They have the same range and conscripts have greater ability to close in on enemy tanks and absorb losses to knock their engine out. The IS-2 scatter does need to be reduced. As it stands now it will 1-2 shot entire full health, even vetted, grens/pgren squads or support weapon teams on the move. Units like this dont exist in a vacuum and I'm not a fan of super units on either side that can reverse the change of a battle. I'd rather COH be a game of winning gradually throughout the match with superior micro/tactics rather than a turn around thanks to an epic unit in the last 5 mins. In: COH2 Balance |

too accurate with too large an AOE for a main battle tank. will 1-2 shot all german squads even on the move but still has enough fire power to 3-4 shot german p4s without many missed shots. In: COH2 Balance |

incorrect, a molotov will almost always insta kill 1 guy. Its cheap cost mean its spammed regularly. In fact I just had a mg42 ran down by a conscript which placed a molotov on the mg when it auto-deployed to shoot and it burned to death in about 1-2 seconds, total crew kill. Far more importantly it completely changes the meta of the t1 game. The only thing soviets do now is rush conscripts into buildings and sit there to cut you off from fuel/cutoffs knowing that, like a fast t70, its extremely hard to counter. Scripts are generalist units which means they can build 4-5+ of them and have an infantry force to last the rest of the game with no downside. In: COH2 Balance |

oorah isnt really the issue, its the cheap molotov ability. 15 mun molotovs are the best nades in the game, they will kill squads outright if your attention is elsewhere for more than a second or two which is very possible mid to late game. Worse molotovs give the soviet player the advantage to use buildings at will while the german player cannot reciprocate. This forces the german player to start on a defensive foot from minute 1, made worse on easy cutoff maps like kholdny right spawn with buildings all over the asymmetrical cutoff. Not conscripts but 30 muni mines, yeah gl hf. With RNG I would estimate I lose an entire 4 man squad to a 30 mun mine at least once every day or two of casual gaming. Or better yet oorah your conscripts into a nerfed mg42's cone, HTD, throw molotov, laugh. In: COH2 Balance |

I agree with OP, mg42 can no longer reliably suppress a single unit charging at it from the front. I would like to see an mg42 that cant just instantly suppress at its max range multiple units like pre-patch, but can instantly suppress a single squad charging right at it, oorah, shocks or not before they reach molotov range. Therefore I think the solution is allowing the mg42 heavy suppression on the first target it shoots, but making keeping it slow to switch targets as it is now. the closer a squad is, the heavier the suppression. Who in their right mind would sprint full speed at a machine gun firing at you? A downside to this patch is that mg42s in buildings are now awful because they take too much time to lock on a target. Expecting mg42s to hold territory as a defensive unit is no longer viable, if your grens retreat you may as well retreat the mg too before it gets lulz killed In: COH2 Balance |

the real danger with the kv8 isnt that they will build 3 and rush your base, its that they will use 1 or 2x as part of a combined arms strategy with su85s or t34s. Combined arms with good micro SHOULD always win the game for a player, but this unit offers too much utility and staying power for its cost as part of a soviet strategy The current meta im seeing is shock heavy strategies with a normal tech to su85s at the 15min mark, and then buying a kv8 when the cps arrive, instead of just rushing the kv8 as a 4cp SURPRISE Buttsex! by itself. The devs cant really control player builds as such, but if relic wants the unit to be used for high dps breakthroughs, as related in this post: wooof: then the the current defensive use of a kv8 in this meta turns it into an anti-infantry su85 limiting aggressive action by the german player.
