General Information


Thread: KV-8; The Thread13 Aug 2013, 11:30 AM I'm OK with the KV-8's damage, given it's a late-game doctrinal, largely anti-infantry tank. The cost is probably too low for the effectiveness, given that trading one for a P-IV or Ostwind or even a StuG isn't a terrible deal. I've been using them quite a lot in a T2-T3 build (i.e. with no SU-85s) and they're pretty solid within that. I'd like the AI to stay the same, since it needs to be a step above Soviet tier 3 (especially given it's almost always hovering in faust range) but I think a cost increase is in order. All five games of the (two patches ago, admittedly before some notable changes) TFN tourney and all three of the current patch Langreskaya tourney were won by Soviets. I think the recent Brazilian championship was more even (it did have pre-patch strafe and opels in it, though). I'm not convinced the apparent (but not really substantial, far as I can see) disparity in automatch search is anything to do with balance. In: COH2 Balance

And contrary to popular belief it comes pretty early on at CP3 (compare to Elephant at CP5) It either needs a massive cost increae (180 fuel like its rival the Brummbar) or a massive decrease in its armor and insta killing with its FT. It is probably too fuel cheap (165-180ish I'd say). The inf killing on it can be kind of variable. Sometimes it'll melt two squads instantly, others it'll kill a couple of guys and let the last two retreat. I kind of think if you reduce the inf killing it won't have much of a point any more. I've not found the speed problematic unless people try to stick around with infantry, and it's very liable to get fausted. In: COH2 Balance

You realise that I'm saying you're acting like that not because I disagree with you but because just about every time you raise a point in you're needlessly aggressive, patronising and rude. The mods can read this thread (or the guards nade thread, or basically any other thread) if they want to see that. Currently the lack of barrage counterparts for the Ostheer doesn't seem to be affecting the (asymmetric) balance negatively, and of the two barrage units you regard as a problem, the SU-76 is almost never used in high level play and the ZiS (which has a muni cost for the barrage) isn't used particularly often and then for its AT function primarily. That said, a barrage on the StuG might work in making it useful again without the return to the Beta superstug. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Game balanced without su8512 Aug 2013, 12:24 PM Depends a lot on the map - Langreskaya in particular is kind of tricky without snipers and SU-85s (hard to push off MGs fast enough to keep up on fuel then lots of open spaces which make it quite hard to compete with German armour). Been having both fun and success with a Kholodny Ferma and Pripyat Winter 2/3scripts -> T2 -> T3 -> KV-8 start. Minsk Pocket seems like the most op map for SU-85s and snipers/sniper cars right now. The way that an SU-85 can destroy a P-IV frontally before a P-IV can destroy an SU-85 from the rear makes flanking attempts with German armour incredibly risky and unrewarding, given the usual arrival of a second SU-85 not long after the second P-IV. Additionally, the SU-85/StuG dynamic just isn't there, which is some of the reason noone uses StuGs much. This is aside from the infantry/PAK sniping, blues brothers reversing and so on. Nullist, you're both being a raging pillock and pointlessly rude, like you are in almost every thread, and also wilfully ignoring that having a discrepancy in the options available can actually be part of the asymmetric balance. The things that make the good Soviet players generally beat Germans atm don't actually seem to include the artillery options. ZiS guns aren't especially popular, noone bothers with the SU-76 (I like it but the SU-85 is unarguably more competitive) and the 82mm mortar is hardly used either (the German one sees a little more use). The Katyusha and to an extent the 120mm see a reasonable amount of use. I think to some extent you tend to see Katyushas quite often is just because the SU-85 is so good against armour that a Soviet T4 player often needs to only build one SU-85 and there's almost never any point in having more than 2, so the Katyusha is the obvious next fuel purchase. Thread: Ostruppen need other uses than cannon fodder!12 Aug 2013, 01:57 AM Another byproduct of the smaller squad sizes - the Ostruppen ability is much less potent than the conscript thing even without the discrepancy between conscripts and Ostruppen. Not sure if what needs to happen is more Ostruppen / casualty (2 per casualty or 3 per 2 casualties or something) so they become a helpful spamtackle unit, or Ostruppen need some other ability to make up for it (repair, wiring, just something).
