Thread: Kholodny LHS house bug17 Aug 2013, 23:52 PM I'm not sure if this is a definite bug or a just a weird byproduct of the way units enter buildings but just before 3 minutes into this replay, an MG 42 manages to enter the LHS cut-off through the wall. Thread: Kholodny MG house teleport bug17 Aug 2013, 23:50 PM Just before 3.00 in, an MG goes into the LHS cutoff house by walking directly through the wall. Was a surprise to me given they can't normally vault. Also, abandoned T-70 rescue and the world's silliest Panzer-IV rush attempt, loads of conscripts running into MGs too. Thread: RNG has too much of an impact on games17 Aug 2013, 21:27 PM The RNG is really the thing that stops this game becoming a mechanical starcrafty game all about timings and builds and keeps it very flexible, adaptive and tactical. Yeah, there's a matter of luck in it but it's more about rolling with what you get generally than planning everything exactly in advance. Which I really like. Edit: The RNG difference from COH 1 doesn't seem that big to me. The increased vehicle crits probably add a little and the more similar infantry DPS places a greater emphasis on getting a few crits. Other than that, doesn't feel hugely more random. I agree AT gun accuracy is pretty flimsy but a lot of that is the size modifiers applied by light vehicles. In: COH2 Gameplay

The PaK shuld also get it; I find that it's just not punishing enough to get your tanks into an AT gun's field of fire right now. They miss too much, especially at long range. As for Ostwinds, you mean you need SU-85s. ''lousy'' AT or not, it still owns the T70 and can almost reliably pen the T-34. Said T-34s cannot kill them fast enough; there's always the ram option of course, but short of using that risky ability you have very little that can actually kill T3 tanks short of the overpowered SU-85. That's a big problem with Soviets right now; SU-85s + guards + snipers is OP, but deviate from that and you have gaping holes in your tech, because only the SU-85 can reliably engage enemy armor. AT guns get decrewed easily and are too innacurate, mines rely on luck, Guards cant pen, T-34 might as well not exist against tanks if it doesn't ram. I've had several Ostwinds waltz into the range of two AT guns and decrew them both after dodging 2-3 shots while my Conscripts were busy stemming the tide of the grenspam. I've had T-70s do similar things. It infuriates me, as in VCOH any tank save a doctrinal heavy that attacked 2 AT guns without flanking was turned into scrap in short order. In this game half the tanks can laugh at their presence if they don't have heavy support. I'm OK with an asymmetry of survivability vs. accuracy in the AT guns (i.e. with them being less vcohey). T-34s work fine against an Ostwind (unless the Ostwind reaches vet 2). They don't instagib them like an SU-85 does but they will reliably push one off, and kill a damaged one not too slowly. After the T-34 rebalancing they'll probably be a bit more of a serious threat 1 on 1. I'm playing Soviets as T2-T3 (sometimes even T1 + guard motor doctrine - T3) on Kholodny at the moment. The T-70/34 pack can trample infantry and stop an Ostwind from running around doing damage, 1 or 2 AT-guns discourage P-IVs, maxims hold back grens. Everything works pretty well, and the presence of AT-guns and the lack of squishy snipers means you don't necessarily need guards. I kind of think people are underestimating Soviet T3 by comparing it to Soviet T4 (or, basically just SU-85s) right now. Don't think it's in that terrible a position, though a small T-34 buff would help it against P-IVs. Edit: this said, I absolutely agree that StuGs and Ostheer T4 need to be more attractive relative to P-IVs. The Brummbar is maybe even in a less useful position than the StuG right now. It has pathetic accuracy and a Tiger can circle starfe it if it comes close. It should get an accuracy buff, in exchange for losing 2 men. Any tank that stays inside an anti-tank gun's firing line should by all rights be ripped to shreds. Currently you can simply waltz an Ostwind to it, it'll get 1 shot off (if it even hits) then die. T-34 do indeed need an AV buff. I dunno if the ram nerf is sufficient, by personally I won't be satisfied until this stupid ability is removed. Also, nothing for StuGs? Wher T4? Penal squads don't need a build time decrease, they need not to die as fast as conscripts for 1.5x the price while having less versatility. Buffing the 120mm mortar? Why would you? It's innacurrate but very powerful, that's kind of the point. The 81mm one does need some love however. Both exaggerating. Any turreted tank that gets near enough to an AT gun can circlestrafe it to death (which is fine. An ZiS gun backed with AT nades is more than capable of dealing with a P-IV), the AT guns are generally reasonably accurate right now (except vs. T-70s... I had one just sitting in a PAK-43's arc earlier dodging everything). The Ostwind is a hard AI vehicle with pretty lousy AT. If you're against an Ostwind, you need to support an AT gun, preferably with armour. That's not really an indictment of AT guns. The main thing with the ZiS is aside from the very solid barrage that the 6 crewmen and merge make you far more capable of keeping it alive, retreating with it intact and gaining vet with it than the PAK against the Soviet T3. After that is Game over since they have the fuel points and most of the map. And the manpower supposed to finance the sniper now go to refill conscript squads pegging me back even more. However I have had some success with this tactic, so the only conclusion is that the first encouter decides the outcome of the game... The big advantage of the snipers/guards/T4 build is that the double-sniper makes it very easy to come back and push stuff (especially MGs) off fuels and cause a lot of damage without really taking much. If you have a 3 or 4 man conscript squad around the time you want to buy a sniper it's OK not to reinforce it and just send it off to cap something. The main risky patch in the strat is if you get hit by a FHT when you have one guard squad around and you mis-micro it badly (normally by accidentally moving and cancelling a button), while the weaker point is if you get both Molotovs and AT nades consecutively and get into a bad engagement around then. Conscript spam requires careful attention to squad health, you must keep squads alive and gaining veterancy. Once Pgrens and LMGs roll out keeping squads alive gets more and more difficult. Clown cars have to stay out of faust range and keep on the move while you are also microing conscript squads. Snipers need to be babysat and constantly microed. Micro is not really an issue for Ostheer until they need to try flanking SU-85s with PZIvs. MG micro is fantastically easy with the invulnerable 4 man squads, other than that all you have to do until mid-late game is click "faust" and rush pgrens close to conscripts, and maybe launch some nades. Armored car micro is easier than clown car micro because you need to rush in and get out with clown cars, then quickly repair and get moving again if you take a faust. Scout cars just need to stay out of AT range. Flamenwurfer use only requires judging how many at nades you can take and keeping a pio near by for repairs. How is Soviet micro not harder? It does not surprise me that Soviet players continue to dominate the tournaments. I think their micro is just that much better, and they're able to exploit the powerful Soviet units (snipers, clown cars) to the full extent their micro allows. Most people are not as good with their micro, thus they prefer Ostheer, even if they wouldn't admit this is the reason. Don't really agree with this, even at a mid level. Eh, Soviet snipers are reasonably survivable and do enough damage/kill squads fast enough that microing them isn't that hard compared to actually trying to kill them and force them off. Clown car micro is actually somewhat easier than scout car micro because of the much higher clown car damage output discouraging rushes, repair being on hand and the lack of Oorah or even guards for the early game Germans (+ eventually overdrive). I'd also note that grenade lethality is much higher against Germans than Soviets thanks to the squad sizes, you need to be on top of that more. Not to mention, stealing things is a much easier choice/option as Soviets thanks to the squad size. In: COH2 Balance
