Definitely different from Civ 4 in a big way, and all the expansions have fleshed it out a lot, definitely better then beyond earth atm. Only complaint is with the last update you can only play multi-player games with pit boss, no turn timer, and either no barbs or no city states to get a stable game of 6 people. .
