Well, in 1vs1 it works wonderfully. If they don't have hit the dirt you simply insta-destroy the full squad with a couple of bursts

In the eSports forums we have suggested a couple of solutions to fix hit the dirt anyways, if I remember correctly we suggested Relic to either decrease the damage of conscripts of a value between 10% and 30% when they are in HTD stance or to give them a timer of like 5-10seconds where they cannot retreat, much like the Airborne troops when they throw a satchel, you cannot retreat them for a bunch of seconds.

...and it's called MG42 15munitions for the Incendiary rounds that totally rape any hit the dirt conscript squad! Now, you may ask me and yourself how the heck your MGs can survive to get vet1!? Well, just watch the game vs this guy who constantly put pressure on me from the early game to find it out!

The key is prioritizing the MG micro over units micro (since that's the unit he wants to kill first anytime) and continue to apply damage till level 1 pops up.
Also remember to always retreat units in time, even if it means losing all the map for a while, but be ready to massively push forward and regain all the territories as soon as you have enough forces.

Featuring a recrewed vet3 MG42 with 32kills, effective use of medpacks from grenadiers (they heal each other incredibly fast even under fire!) vs 4 conscripts squads with PPSh + Hit the Dirt + molotovs with increased range bulletin. At some point I thought he would have switched to tanks (so I prepared a pak and a PG squad just in case) but instead he prefered to go for Guards/Maxim/ZiS-3
