Ugh, I hated mirrors in warcraft 3. |
Yeah, the fact that Lynx has came out as more human than most CM's combined is enough for me to support him. |
What retailer would pay royalties and then give away the product for free?
What if I told you I would cut your grass for free, but I would still be making money because some random person would pay me to do your yard work?
Eh, isn't that how the world usually works? You work for a (e.g.) gardening company that has a distict area to take care for. Many times these companies can get paid by the government or such public entity, and obviously you wouldn't get paid by the man whose lawn you mowed. The man propably doesn't even pay for the service straight to the company itself, but does it indirectly by paying taxes. I'm not saying this model is entirely interchangeable with the game industry model, but when the community gets bigger, it might get feasible to start using middlemen (not implying it's the best model for the customer/work force obviously). |
I'm just as anxious as anyone to see Beta start. I don't necessarily think that Relic/Sega should get a pass for the lack of communication over the past 2-3 weeks, but I do understand their predicament.
It seems to me the most critical moment to have a community manager in place is during the Beta phase of a game. This is self evident in that the CM provides community feedback to the developer (Relic) that would be critical in helping with designing a satisfactory finished product. Currently, as we all know SEGA has no CM for the CoH2 community.
With SEGA now in charge of filling that position, it will take more time than just a week or 2. Even if Bobby(Lynx) is the obvious choice a company such as SEGA must follow protocol in filling any position. I remember working for a large well known employer. This company had hiring protocol's like I am speaking of. Even when it was a complete slam dunk for a certain applicant to get a job, this company still had to post the job and hold for 10 days before a hiring decision could occur. And this was just the internal website. I'm sure with external applicants the wait would have been longer.
If SEGA has a similar stance on hiring, it might mean upwards of a month before the position is filled. The job has to be posted. Their is most likely a waiting period to allow candidates ample time to apply. Job interviews must occur and schedules arranged for those interviews to happen. Background checks have to occur. Job offers made and salary negotiations as well.
And even after a hire is completed, onboarding for the newly hired employee also must occur. Depending on the company this might also take several weeks/months.
In other words, I can see why its taking as long as it has as it only been about 2.5 weeks since SEGA'S aquistion. And its probably gonna take longer than we'd all like it to.
I guess we just continue to hang in there.
Intelligent post. This is quite likely to actually happen, tbh. Damn bureucracy these days.. 'ruining' everything. |
Back in the day when I started playing warcraft 3 multiplayer (as we got our first non-modem connection) I tried to invent something original that would also make sense. Well, my surname is Leivo and because me and my little brother used the same account, 'LeiwoUnion' just felt right (w is also cooler than v). Later I stole the rights for the account name from my brother (he also thought it was kinda lame at that point) |
I like the idea of hyper situational bulletins that would improve some (very) certain tactics and not strategy in general. |
I wouldn't be surprised if Sega grabs the game and says: Guys, this is great, but we can do more. Here's more money, push back the release date, make it awesome.
Then the CoH2.org community would go up in flames screaming "WHY!?" and Sega would please us saying: All CoH2 pre-orders will include exclusive access to the Rome 2 Beta, and an exclusive unit. Then we all go "Awwwwwwwww yeeeeh!"
And then Sega will go: "Playa wantz observer mode, replay toolz, modding tools? Playa get observer mode, replay toolz and modding tools."
And we all go like: "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"
...and then I woke up.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! Aww shit, Inception. |

I will rename myself 'Guy Neutral' to avoid offending anyone. Though even that would propably offend some right wing feminists.
Also, speaking of cat predators; did you know that they occasionally play with their food (alive) and actually torture them for fun? |
Aaaaaaaaaah.. so much hate.. |
