Guards last past were lacklustre at best vs infantry and average against vehicles, and that is why they were almost never seen. Now they are strong vs infantry and vehicles and as such are present in at least 70% of all sov builds(IME). You quoted the patch notes and should know that their performance against vehicles was not effected The build was though to beat before the patch and it still is now. I'm not sure if nerfing guards ai would be helpful since then the unit goes back to not being used besides the people that specifically want to go for that strat. A better route would be to have a one man/woman sniper and limit the guards' slow ability to anything above light vehicles (excluding them) or remove it. That way it is possible to dive with light vehicles to chase a sniper down. In: Scrap Yard

HelpingHans complained about the guard sniper combo and how difficult it is to counter that strat as OKW. The guard-sniper strat has always been really hard for OKW to counter. Nothing in the last patch has changed or exacerbated the issue. Is it a potential balance issue? Yes. Has it anything to do with the last patch? No. Furthermore, it's not allies. It's the synergy of two Soviet units and the lack of counters on the OKW side. In: Scrap Yard

The only reason i can see now is...Airborne company needing to keep something more to not be useless. I see where you're coming from. I can't think of a good reason to not have them as an upgrade other than making them different from normal paras, which in itself could be enough of a reason. They had less of them but I consider that an advantage since they could pick up a bazooka or bar or buy the missing lmg. They where extremely expensive thou and come too late making the ability meh. I know. I probably spent more time with Recon than anyone else when it was still a terrible commander, but it doesn't change the fact that the weapons they had (stock) were inferior. Yes, the thompson squad was able to invest another 120 ammo (2 bars) to make them probably the most devastating close range unit (if you used Tactical Movement) The lmg squad was not able to buy another lmg, only to pick up one bar (only one weapon slot). The current implementation by far superior to what it used to be. It used to be that you got 2 paras with a random chance (you didn't have a choice of weapon). The chance to get a thompson squad was 25%, a lmg squad 25% and a zook squad 50%. The two anti infantry weapon equipments were inferior versions of the normal paras. You only got 1 lmg instead of 2 or 3 thompsons instead of 4. I don't see a problem with losing the ability to get thompsons as a trade-off to be able to actually have a choice instead of praying to RNGuses that he does not grant me 2 zook squads. The zook squads are also better than they used to be. In: COH2 Gameplay

Which do you prefer?30 Dec 2017, 11:50 AM Initially, I didn't like it much, because for me it was a sign of skill, if someone managed to dodge nades and mortars by jumping in and out of a building. However, realising that it is still possible to dodge nades but not completely without damage, I have to say that the new version feels more better overall. I really do hate the garrison dance bug however, that should get fixed even though it looks hilarious If possible it would also be nice to have control of my squads back sooner. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: How do I pak howitzer? 20 Dec 2017, 13:21 PM In any situation where you need indirect fire, you are better off with the mortar or a scott. The pack howie is just terrible. It is only remotely decent if it has a direct line of sight. Add to that, that it's range is 80 like all other, much cheaper, infantry based indirect fire units (excluding the 120). It's also the only auto fire indirect fire unit that does not get better with vet. A vet 3 (not that you'll see it often) pack howie will perform just the same as a vet 0 one, only the barrages change. The phosphorous barrage is a perfect example of the units uselessness witout direct line of sight. If the barrage is fired over a sight blocker it will land anywhere and you're lucky if it lands somewhere close where you want it. With direct los the first shot will land about where you'd like it, will then block los and the remaining two will just go anywhere. For me, this unit is more likely to lose you a game than win you one. You can almost get 2 mortars for the price of one pack howie. As luciano notes, it can be good with a lot of micro, but the amount is just disproportunate to any other unit of the type. The vet of the unit basically means you'll have to constantly move back and forth using barrages, which, again, are the only thing improving about the unit with vet. In: US Forces Strategies
