This is the single biggest issue with the Panther. It's a weird tank destroyer that doesn't have 60 range and is supposed to brawl with its superior health and armor, but it's horrific accuracy makes that incredibly risky if not downright impossible due to the risk of losing a unit that is only 45 fuel cheaper than a Tiger. |
Wouldn't nerfing the counters to heavy tanks just make heavy tanks even more dominant? I tend to think TDs and ATGs are in the oppressive state they are now principally because they have to be able to counter heavy tanks.
It would definitely require a major rebalance of a lot of units which I think is unlikely to hapepn at this point.

I'll say it again, Heavies are just a symptom of the problem, not the root of it.
The real problem is that mediums are too easily shut down by TD or Pak spam. For Axis, the additional problem is that the Tiger is the only reliable counter to the IS2 because the Panther is useless. |
You know what was really absent? Wehrmacht T4. And when it did appear it lost the game for the Wehrmacht player. |
The problem isn't really Grenadiers in this match-up, but the 7 men upgrade being too efficient. It becomes impossible to bleed Conscript builds in the late game, so you're pretty much forced into going Tiger and hope you win the tank war.
I'd suggest changing the 7 men upgrade to be freely available at T3 and reducing the munitions cost slightly, but removing the reload/cooldown bonus in cover. This would keep the upgrade at 7 men, lower reinforcement cost and faster veterancy gain.

And strip OKW of their best counter to tank destroyer and medium spam? I'd rather not. The current Jagdpanzer IV has a clearly defined role, and it excels at it. The only problem is that nothing except the Tiger I has high enough DPM to fight against the IS-2, but that's no reason to change the JP4 entirely.
Why not make the Tiger II more akin to the IS2? It's steeply expensive of course, but the issue with it is the performance, specifically the turret rotation. That way OKW has a direct counter for the IS2 that does not result in Meta offensive every game. |

Increasing CP would not change anything. Before the CPs were changed it was 13 CP for the IS2. What happened in those tourneys? Yep, Soviet players stalled for the IS2.
As for the Tiger, there is simply no point in going for the Panther unless you want to lose. At best, the Panther will keep the IS2 at bay until it hits vet 2. It has an enormous cost (especially for Wehrmacht players), but doesn't deliver for its price tag.
So what are your options to reliably counter the IS2? You guessed it. The Tiger.
Sure, it helps the Tiger is a very strong unit, but the overall issue is that you simply don't have any other reliable counter. |
