Thread: I hear the new patches have made western allies op?12 Apr 2019, 09:55 AM From what I know, the reason the Vickers is so good at killing and bad at suppressing is because it has relatively low suppression values per bullet while having high DPS (slightly more than M2HB and HMG 42), so its burst will deal more damage because the suppression damage reduction kicks in later. The HMG 42 and the M2HB have much higher suppression per bullet so the suppression should kick in just before they get to kill a model. In: COH2 Balance

Regularly they will focus on a model, that model will die and all the suppression accrued on it counts for nothing. Actually, the M2HB has less DPS than the HMG 42, so that shouldn't be a problem for it. At ranges 10/20/35 M2HB has 25.92/17.235/8.015 DPS MG42 has 27.67/18.401/10.077 DPS Since it deals faster suppression than the HMG 42 (0.74s vs 1.042s at mid range) the effective DPS would be even lower. Or UKF Advanced Emplacements' Counter Battery ability. Or UKF's Commando Regiment that does have recon planes (with Assault Operation ability) and Air Supremacy Operation to bomb the howitzer (not cheap but it's there). Or USF Major arty that can usually take out a howitzer with some lucky scatter. Or IR Pathfinders Howitzer Barrage. Or that 2/3 Allied factions have access to AA that will instantly shoot down recon planes so they can't scout enemy howitzers. GCS2 Ostheer 61% win ratio versus USF would like to have a word. USF had to be slightly redesigned because their incredibly limiting tech tree exclusitivity made them bad no matter which opponent they faced. In: COH2 Gameplay

They are not, the G43s are a near/mid range and offensive upgrade. Let them upgrade to start with up to vet 2 on their infantry and tanks (out of a universal 5 levels) as they scrape together the remains of their veteran units on the western front. Somehing to that effect. Well an upgrade like that would then give problems similar to vCoH's Wehrmacht's bought veterancy - giving a big advantage late game where wiped squads can be replaced with instantly vetted new squads while the enemy can only replace theirs with fresh ones. Anyways my point was not to discuss how vet 5 should've been implemented, but that different veterancy systems can help give factions a unique identity as long as they are properly implemented. IMO Panzer Elite's veterancy is the best example of how it can be interesting and balanced, while OKW's initial vet 5 system was an example of how it should not be done. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: National Identity - And Lack Thereof10 Apr 2019, 09:53 AM Jump back to quoted post10 Apr 2019, 09:00 AMTheGentlemenTroll Personally I think the two worst implementations of faction mechanics are the vet 5 system I think veterancy is one of the things that can be used to give factions identity as long as its implementation is done right - as was proven by vCoH's Panzer Elite veterancy (choose between offensive or defensive vet and tune your units to your own preference) which was quite decent and balanced but gave a unique feeling. The vet 5 system is another idea what could've been good in theory but was implemented in a wrong way. It should've used the same basic (and fair) principle for all OKW units: vet 1-3 as combat bonusses similar to all other factions, with vet 4 and 5 (or just 4 and no 5) being a utility ability upgrade - like Suppression ability on Luchs or Obers.
