Here's the facts of the case. The Ez8 has the worst A.I performance out of all of the Sherman varients. The Ez 8 has worse A.I than the OKW P.4 while having more epxensive Pintle. It's also in a 'bad' doctrine. The reload is longer than other Shermans but the pen is much better. Sherman Ez8 seems to have better base pen than Sherman 76's stock AP rounds but not better than Hvap rounds. However, Ez8 does get one more AT shot worth of health.
Issue: Sherman Dozer upgrade + Jackson is around the same fuel cost but perform vastly superior to 2 ez8.
Anaylsis: Repo Rogue did a long analysis of shermans a while back and he condluded Sherman Dozer upgrade is probably the most superior sherman varient. The Role of the sherman, is ultimately, not to brawl with vehicles but rather to support infantry and Tank Destroyers. The Ez8 doesn't do either of those things well because it has more Pen, the same about of health as Sherman Dozer upgrade, but over all less DPM than a Sherman 76. Couple that with the doctrine the Ez8 is in, and it's clear why people might think the Ez8 is underperforming. It's non-meta and perhaps need some love. People are unwilling to buff it because they believe it will be an over all buff to USF instead of a diversity of gameplay option change.
Possible solutions: Tighten the main gun scatter vs infantry OR buff the hull MG a little.
Rework option: Clone the Comet without crew grenades for a true preimum medium expereince.

Yeah, can't deny that some units are changed in order to stay competitive. Panzer Grens are a really recent example. They got a new ability and also moved to the HQ building.
Although a net positive for Ost, it is also a response to a net loss for Ost (which is the nerfing of mobile defense that really impacted midgame )
I don't think there's always a curve upwards but rather a flutuating wave of balancing. There was a time where only Soviets and Ost was played in tournaments. Now a new element has been introduced with Heavy tanks, but it was too strong and now is being tuned back. Even Recon which is notoriously good vs ost is being nerfed. The degree of which is arguable.
Can you say though that this Heavy tank meta isn't just as bad as call in T34/85 meta or opie opie Eite troops or Terminator Infiltration troops WITH GRENADES ON SPAWN? There's always going to be cancer in different flavors and forms but I think in general there is much less shitty over the top stuff and daamge has been consistently tuned to be more perdictable.
Yes there are absolutely stuff that are opie right now but that's why we have these review periods to catch these bugs and iron them out.

Climate change while it exists is a complete red herring here.
Based on previous posts in this very thread about the progression of M36s and Panthers and etc, it just seems like there's a lot of reworking instead of power creep.
In fact, there seems to be less alpha damage, less RNG, less one shot wipes, and far more tatical options than ever before.
If you look at things like Mortars it also seem to be that some things are being toned down from its original state.

First off I want to say COH2.org Discord is hosting a tourney based on winter balance prview so we can get some samples and have a bit of fun.
On to thoughts
Armor on wasp is huge for brits. Still won't be as good as a flame halftrack but god damn that's going to be fun.
Little bit about the teching for Brits thou.
One of the ways Brits is staying competitive right now adjusting to the Tommy nerfs is by rushing fast Cromwell. The good stalling power of brits and trenches allow. Giving a lot of Cqc options is pretty good but here is my concern.
It's going to be easier for top UKF players to get armor out. Meaning, we might be seeing 8-9 minute Centaurs due to how UKF teching works. It technically only takes 145 fuel in order to start unlocking mediums assuming skipping things like Bolster, AEC, etc.
Here you've given even easier ways to skip bolster with 5 man spawning squads which eliminates the 35 fuel needed for bolster. Here you've given a CQC anti infantry unit as an alternative to Sniper in the mid game.(A lot of brit players get a sniper to supplement A.I since tommy mid game has no meaninful offensive vet) Along with the lend lease doctrine, you can skip AEC tech and get AA halftrack vs ost. With a potentially much better early game, Wasp Buffs, CQC mid game unit, Brit will have a much better mid game than ever before. BUT I'd say you can get a centaur competitively with LV timing about 8-9 minutes since all of these factors lead to NEEDING LESS FUEL TO BE COMPETITIVE WHILE ALSO INCREASING MAP PRESENCE.
This is going to completely flip flop mid-low level Brit vs OST. Espically a level where people don't understand how to deal with Assault troops and a level where the moving accuracy/RA buffs will help the most.
In essense, a recipe for Cheese.
What i'm suggesting is to force the unlock of AEC or Bofors tech in order to unlock T3. This wouldn't nerf traditional doctrines but rather an anti chese measure.

You cannot be higher than lvl 17 in any faction 1v1 or have participated in GCS or WCS or whatever big tournament in order to join this tournament. Check Scheduling for details! THE SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS ARE ON THE 22nd. Elimination comes before!!!!
Game Mode: 1v1, 500 VPs
Best of 1, with a Best of 3 for the Semi-finals and Best of 5 for Finals
Starting positions: Fixed - Allies 1, Axis 2
No commander/bulletin restrictions
Axis Vs Allies only, no other faction restrictions
Coin toss winner chooses faction first, loser chooses the first veto.
Maps will be vetoed in alternating order until only one remains - that one will be played.

Check-in and Score Reporting -After the game is finished, the score will be reported to the tournament administrators. There will be a place on the discord set aside for the tournament replays, which must be posted by the winner.
Tournament casting will be organized by the tournament administrators and individual casting is discouraged.
Irregularities and Other Communication In extreme cases of match irregularity, tournament administrators have final say, so long as no established rule is violated.
The only exception to this is if both players agree to replay the match due to irregularity or if both players decide on a winner.
All administrative communication should happen via steam or discord messaging between involved parties.
-Disconnect/bugsplat in first 5 minutes will be a rematch unless advantage is obvious (“obvious” to be defined by a ref). DC/bugsplat after 5 minutes will result in loss to whoever disconnected. If both players consent to a rematch these rules are overwritten and a rematch will occur with the same faction and map selection.
-15 minutes between matches allowed for break, opponent must be alerted to the fact that you want a break -5 minutes late to check in to round no penalty, shoutout will be given to player. 10 minutes late faction and first veto given to opponent. 15 minutes late disqualification.
-Technical Difficulty delay can be called by the casters/staff. If you are in a game, complete the game and report results normally. If you are waiting to begin a game, wait until the administrators give the all clear to resume. If this occurs in the middle of a series, all finished matches up to that point stand, as well as the VP counts. If the faction/map selection has occured, this stands as well.
-Cheating, match fixing, or unsportsmanlike behavior will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament. Any winnings will be revoked and awarded to the next highest ranking player not violating this rule. You will not be allowed to compete in later tournaments.
-If you have to drop from the tourney, you are allowed to give your position to your opponent unless it's the final round
Bragging rights, a Tournament Champion role in Coh2.org Discord, and $10 USD on steam.
Registration end at Feb 12. YOU WILL NOT HAVE A SPOT IF YOU ARE NOT ON THE DISCORD After registration I'll be posting brackets. Panzerfüssilier grenade has no consistent audio warnings. Penal Satchels too. Not sure if this is intended or not? Grenadier rifle grenade is very bugged too including animation not showing up at all. Then you have the units clumping together not moving away from cover despite being ordered too. All of this makes grenades very annoying to deal with. Hopefully in COH3 units will feel more responsive so the commands feels more precise.
Part of why I liked Coh1's squad system better sometimes. the models aren't so clumped up. If we had Coh1 squad mechanic, an anti blob system, and fence vaulting in COh3 I would cry.

It's not even good at securing kills thou. 50% moving accuracy and shitty accuracy vs infantry means you're not going to be getting many wipes with this thing.
Also, Ostwind and P4 combo exists. Cromwell needs anti infantry capabiilities to stand on its own without the Centaur.
It's simply a crummy tank.
