Thread: Universal Carrier19 Apr 2016, 19:42 PM I've never managed to push OKW or Ost off the map with UCs. Trust me I've tried. Frankly the UC's only use outside of the first few minutes is sat in base as a command vehicle. 2 Fausts definitely kills it, 1 often does the job due to criticals. I've lost lots of UCs to single shots. I'd much prefer a more expensive UC which could actually do something useful. If that is 15 fuel then it should perform. There are many ways in which it could however it's ahistorical Vickers K, inability to garrison troops firing, Vickers in particular, relatively large target size compared to real life size and unrealistic vet requirements are all things which should be looked it. In particular it should have some role in the middle and late game as all tier 1 units should. In: COH2 Balance

Faust often 1 shots it, a single shreck means 210 manpower wasted, it has no middle or late game use and there is no way to repair it. In 500 hours with the Brits using UCs despite their weaknesses I've managed to get 2 to Vet 1. If it is such an overpowered unit then feel free to look on the British strat forum and join my Universal Carrier challenge. Apparently, according to your post, you only have to avoid a Rak and they are invulnerable... Good luck. You would have to kill 9 Volks or 7 Sturms to get your money's worth out of a UC. The infantry and the army in more general terms is not a place for the unwilling or the poorly trained. As an example I did a full year in the reserves during which time I racked up enough full days service ( we aren't talking 8 hour days here ither!) to make it equivalent to 7 months in a full time job ( whilst also holding down a full time job and adding in a third part-time job as a semi pro poker player), then signed on the dotted line for a deployment. From here I spent another 7 months full time in pre-deployment training before flying out to Afghanistan. I think we had 5 days off in the entire time and only 1 full weekend. Once there the first month was acclimatization and in theatre training, and then 5 months actual trigger time. Still I was quite rightly treated as a war tourist and last to be chosen to go into harms way. Being an infantryman is a complicated job these days. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: AoE damage found too deadly to elite infantry.15 Apr 2016, 02:37 AM "Blast Radius in this game is at least 5 times smaller than it in real world, so I think it's kind of acceptable" I can't remember the exact figures but one I do recall is that the 155mm had a kill radius of 50m for troops in the open. For artillery the zone is actually eliptical or tear shaped. 81mm had a surprisingly large radius, something like 25m due to it's trajectory. Grisly I know but a single mortar round once killed or injured over 250 people... I do remember that 16inch naval fire had a massive kill radius of 150m though it was special in that almost half of that was purely due to concussive shock. Even without shrapnel this was enough to kill and overturn 60 ton tanks or blow their turrets off. Even heavily dug in infantry would simply be dead after facing a barrage, only heavy fortifications offered any protection. HMS Rodney once took out an entire heavy armoured battalion of Tigers which was forming up for an attack in woodland. Most prized though was the weight of fire achievable by a light cruiser, something like HMS Belfast with 12 6" guns fed by hydraulic hoists could easily exceed the firepower of a Corps level artillery formation. Those 12 rounds from the Brit 25pdrs should actually clear half a 1v1 map... If this scares you then don't join the infantry. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: British VS OKW Explanation 14 Apr 2016, 23:52 PM I'd say you have a pretty good grasp of the problems faced when playing OKW in particular. Only the Cromwell is clearly superior to the units that you face on an individual basis. Sturms in particular beat your Infantry in almost any situation. Tommies in green cover with Sturms of equal vet closing across red cover? Tommies lose. Commandos will beat them, but not trade efficiently with them due to their higher cost. In general therefore Brits rely on their commanders to make up the shortfall in raw firepower and serviceability. This requires you to tailor your playstyle around the commander though as many of the commander abilities have been nerfed into the ground sometimes it doesn't leave much. Artillery cover for instance in Tactical support was once your only option to even up the odds in one desperate push as per NorthWeapon's guide. Schwerers are particularly difficult. Other than catching them whilst they are building nothing short of medium tanks focus firing them is effective. Off map artillery can help, as can an AT gun but they require protection from the inevitable shreck blobs. OKW seem to be stronger at every stage of the game however the command vehicle with either the Royal Engineers or Tactical support can give you local superiority, as can a well placed and well defended mortar pit. Emplacements in general are a mugs game, whilst they buy you some time their destruction is inevitable due to the infantry support guns and you are just escalating to later game where OKW become even stronger. Since the vet bug was fixed the late game hinges on wiping highly vetted OKW squads, Brenned up IS or engineers can trade well if slowly with them but only HE either in the form of armour, mortar pit or mines really gives you a chance to wipe against a good player. Fuel is the key, if you can deny OKW fuel and escalate to armoured warfare before them then it is a win, course this entails taking out the Schwerer which is likely guarding one of the fuels and a VP... The options you have therefore are based upon commander abilities... I'd say these are in order of effectiveness / popularity.. 1. Vanguard. Allows you to deny fuel by harassing the cutoff through capping with vehicles. Also strafes punish vehicle blobs and the Croc punishes infantry blobs. 2. Mobile assault. Allows you to ensure that concentration of force is punished through the land mattress. 3. Royal Engineer / Tactical support. Allows you local superiority by use of a rather fragile command vehicle. Avre is effective as was artillery cover. Observation post allows strafes though the munitions costs inherent in this commander are huge. OKW's real achilles heel is suppression, though no commander helps in this regard and the Vicker's legendary inability to effectively suppress often makes for rofl stomps. If you can get to the late game then a pit and snipers are effective at attriting OKW squads, AECs at chasing down anything which doesn't have shrecks. Comets too, though they come too late to be relied upon individually. All of which basically leaves the Cromwell. In: UKF Strategies
