If you think sports can't have an element of luck, you've never played a sport competitively before. Show me one definition of sport that excludes activities with elements of randomness. You won't find one, because it's bullshit.
And school = sport? What? A sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. (Source).
Just because a term has ambiguous bounds doesn't mean anything can be applied to that term. I don't think the title of competitive gaming is important. It doesn't matter if you call it a sport, or esports, or whatever else you want to call it. It just matters that it's a legitimate competition with a level of difficulty comparable to traditional competitive activities, many of which are traditionally classified as sports.

God your posts are painful to read. Please, educate yourself on how networks function before you pretend to know the first thing about latency. Your comments reek of ignorance. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: No RNG mode18 Dec 2013, 20:16 PM
Every game has RNG. Starcraft Brood War has RNG and it's arguably the most popular RTS of all time. Sure, it didn't have as much as CoH2 does, but it was still there. Dota 2 has an insane amount of RNG, and it's incredibly competitive. RNG isn't bad. vCoH had as much RNG as CoH2 does, and it still had an extremely stable competitive scene. If you're better than your opponent, you will win more often than your opponent. They're dealing with the same conditions you are. Understanding what risks are worth taking is an essential part to improving as a player. Stop complaining and start trying to improve. Learn about the system and figure out how you can exploit it. He didn't, but people will, and the fact that every thread mentioning this references P2P is proof that almost everybody blames that system for part of their issues. I just asked that people do research before commenting. vCoH was more responsive than CoH2 is because vCoH's animations were a lot sharper and happened instantly, instead of waiting for a transition animation to complete. The recent CoH2 patch was meant to improve this problem, but I haven't played it, so I can't comment. Anybody who thinks latency was better in vCoH is kidding themselves, though. Unless you played someone physically close to you, it was rather terrible. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: INPUT LAG Relics Lost Cause17 Dec 2013, 19:31 PM
Posted this in another thread. Please, do some research before you complain about lag and demand a system (client-server rather than P2P) that would likely increase latency rather than improve it. Because client-server in an RTS game is impractical. There isn't a single RTS game on the market right now that's client-server. The closest is SC2, and even then the server is only used to validate and route information. No calculations are being made server-side. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: Video games a sport?!?15 Dec 2013, 20:07 PM
I don't really think it matters what it's called. I played baseball in university and played a lot of vCoH tournaments. I was as competitive playing baseball as I was playing Company of Heroes. If you enjoy competition and you enjoy playing games, you'll enjoy competitive gaming no matter what it's called. I think the one problem with calling it sports is how quickly people are ready to dismiss it as a result. Excelling at a competitive game is just as challenging and time-consuming as excelling at a sport, but when you call it a sport you put these preconceptions in peoples' heads (things like athleticism, popular appeal, etc.) that competitive gaming just isn't about. Thread: A comprehensive theory about where Relic is going...12 Dec 2013, 15:24 PM
I'm sure there's a clause in the agreement you had to accept at install that says sales are final and they reserve the right to modify any and all content as they see fit. If you bitch loud enough about it they'd probably refund your money to shut you up, but if they refuse I doubt you'd have any legal recourse. In: Lobby |
Thread: Congrats, you got me playing again12 Dec 2013, 14:45 PM
Yeah, if it wasn't for the new Dota 2 update I'd probably start playing a little bit again. But I'll reserve my enthusiasm until I see the next round of DLC commanders. If they break the game as badly as the previous round did, it will very much be one step forward, two steps back. In: COH2 Gameplay |
