When I was 12 years old, I was excited with Warcraft 3. I liked it so much that I could spent hours trying to design new units for my favorite faction, which would be fun to play. Of course, it was something like Knights with ranged attack and heal. But few months later I realised that a thing called "competitive multiplayer" actually exists and it does not accept wunderwaffe abilities and ubermeschen soldiers for sake of players mechanical skills being viable. The problem of expensive tanked soldiers with huge dps is amount of micro management required to counter them being ridiculously high compared to that of controlling them. Backed out with pair of AT guns AND with obliterating artillery, that would be just as stupid as Knights with heal and ranged attack. There is a reason why E8 do not have 800hp and 240 armor, or panther not humiliating infantry with its main gun.
Wunderwaffe - is just what makes game balance terrible. There was enough brainless comeback moves such as struggling until IS-2/KT/JT/ISU. That could be just another one. Do we really need it?
Back to Starcraft (where "cheese" was invented), "cheese" is surprising strategy, which relies on enemy unreadiness for some non-standard strategies such as photon/bunker rush, Invisible units rush etc. Nowadays, when you see M1919, Calliope arrival is quite obvious, so it can't be a "cheese" at all. Priest arrival with some game-breaking salvos could be a cheese, but it even sounds ridiculous
(Yes, tell me you want shitty Riflemen grenades, AT guns that have low pen, no sniper unit, have the pwerfer with armor be a call-in and have your armor locked behind a inf unit that first's cost is the same as said armor unit.)
Don't forget that EVERYTHING should be locked behind purchasable upgrades.
There are numerous replays where game ended up in USF getting rekt by panther rushes with support of KT/JT/Ele, when Jacksons with their ridiculous HP can't do anything just because they can't RUN fast enough. 8-10 zooks do their work much better in such situations.
IMHO, Calliope is the only viable USF armor. While it is made of the same cardboard boxes as M4, still it have better chances to SURVIVE, because it don't need to engage enemy at open area. The real problem is not OPness of the whole commander or Calliope, but the ALL other USF armor being unreliable in terms of price/survivability.
Disregarding current state, can anyone explain me: what the garden did Relic let the faction, which, according to Relic, focus on strong early game, have THE BEST SET OF MEDIUM ARMOUR IN WHOLE GARDENING GAME? Especially after second best being Ostheer. And put an only non-doctrinal heavy on top of that. And in the same time add very specific US cardboards to "what is the turret" soviet tank destroyers
I'm amused with everyone giving Dusty shit for his opinion.
That was normal reaction to his arrogance directed to huge part of the community. He could act as a enlightened gentleman, but decided just to spit in the face of the community's part. Nuff said that community spat him whole stream back. Just an observation
