I think this would be ideal if it's able to be implemented. Where the "alt" is just code for "go here in the shortest route possible vaulting everything" Otherwise an exception of auto-vaulting being disabled during combat would be my 2nd choice. I'm sure that's doable as they can code "in combat" in COH2 for stuff like auto-sprint. Otherwise I don't think it's strictly necessary with good map design. Vaulting was only super annoying on certain legacy maps like Vaux Farmlands. I feel like with the involvement of map making veterans and lessons from COH2 that you can head off map-related vaulting issues. In: COH3 Central

Why do you think this thread exists in the first place? Pathfinders ability to locate static defenses like mg42's is the main complaint for most people. but then again, most people do not adept So riddle me this. If people get the unit for it's recon ability then why are they spammed? Is it so that you have multiple spotters across the entire map? Having 2-3 Spares so you always have one on the field during retreats? I'm not denying that the vision is part of it but it's pretty reductionist to say that it's the main draw. Otherwise you'd see a lot more IR Halftracks and the like built. If you're looking to make Pathfinder spam less toxic it's a lot more palatable to tweak their sight than fiddle with their combat ability because nobody likes weak scout units cough cough old I&R Pathfinders. Uh, what? People do not get Fusies/JLI because they are a Recon Asset... they get them because 1. Minute 0 Snares 2. Longer Range Snares 3. Insane Moving Accuracy/DPS that dumbs down micro 4. For JLI - single handedly wrecking Sections or winning Green Cover Fights - Bonus for being in Commander with the best off map skill planes. 5. Both are great Sniper hunters due to sniping, cloak, or running and gunning with Fusies I'm probably forgetting things. Any nerf to sight bonuses wouldn't make them unusable in the least. The sight bonus is literally a huge scoop of cherries on top. Oh yeah... Fusies have Flares (that rarely need used because they have good sight stock with G43s). In: COH2 Balance

It was given when Ostheer was in a really bad position but today it doesn't make anymore sense for them having such free ability on cheap starting unit. Then removing every vision range abilities given to any unit that isn't a reco unit. Tanks and infantry alike. Keeping only the historical scope for Ostheer since it already come with a downside. Then removing the weapon slot on Path. In 2vs2 you must pick pathfinder because your opponent's doctrines of choice give extra vision to their tanks and infantry when they themselves aren't already picking JLIs. How are you supposed to fight a P4/P5/Tiger when it has more armor, more vision and more penetration + arty barrage in bonus. A KT that have incendiary round + extra vision A Tiger ACE that can self-repair and extra vision Command Panther that have extra vision etc... Well you pick a unit that also provides you vision. Amen! At some point the go-to to buffing any under used unit or doctrine was to give it extra sight. I'm personally still fine with the Pioneer vision since it's not as large as Pathfinder/JLI sight and beyond the early game Pioneers are on repair duty the vast majority of the time so it's harder to really utilize the slightly higher than normal extra sight. Self-spotting combat units are just such an insane force multiplier and really makes life easier... In: COH2 Balance
Thread: USF Pathfinder spam is too efficient (2v2)12 Apr 2022, 17:29 PM My gut feeling says it's a bit of column A and a bit of column B. USF's roster holes combined with human nature to rely on crutches means that Pathfinders (or possibly just Pathfinder's synergy with other units) are overperforming in some regard to fill that hole. The percentage of the root cause being either that you're being "forced" into Pathfinders due to lack or options or "choosing" them because that lack of options made you discover how good they are are neither here nor there for me personally. I think the temporal correlation with the Scott buff is hard to ignore and would lead to me presuppose that the issue is the combination of Pathfinder sight and their combat ability. The sight alone is useful for skirting HMGs and coordinating Scott barrages. Combined with massed Sniper Criticals then you get why they are so good generally speaking. I think the most elegant fix would be to give Pathfinders some kind of T-70 like Recon Mode that toggles better their current sight range with the Sniper Critical being active. That way they retain their utility but you are choosing between them being a spotter and a "mainline replacement". In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Tips to counter LMG Grens + MG42 spam?12 Apr 2022, 16:38 PM Jump back to quoted post25 Feb 2022, 19:20 PMOswaldMosley I was playing USF, build order 2 Riflemen + mortar team, doing the usual smoke and flank on the MG42 team, but i'm struggling because I'm trying to force the MG42 to retreat or kill it, but the defending Grens are able to cut down my riflemen before I can do that. Any tips? If your micro allows for it consider going 3 Rifles. Personally I feel like the mortar only becomes necessary when they go for a 2nd MG42 (depending on map). Laney maps or maps with choke points that facilitate MG42 camping then mortar can be better. The third rifle just gives you more versatile firepower for overwhelming Grens. For MG42s just practice on sending in Rifles from multiple angles and spreading them out so they don't all get suppressed at once. I also feel like Grenades are underrated - the first grenade usually catches people offguard and can get you an easy wipe if MG42 is bunched on yellow cover. Smoke from officers/REs can also be annoying and at the very least force them to constantly pay attention to the MGs. In: Strategy Desk

I wouldn't be sad if this happened. Eliminates all of the "OP with radio net" concerns and lets you maybe slightly buff ROF as well as an option if you give it a new Vet 1. HVAP 76MMM is a lot more attractive for Soviets given the bigger gap with T34 Pen and turretless TDs. (Even if 85s are probably still better overall). In: COH2 Balance

This leaves a big gap in the AI department. The 75mm Sherman is a beast against infantry, it has the HE shell for a reason: USF usually need it for the mid/late game. The 76mm does not have this option. It is "okay" at best against infantry, but for that you have to use it on the normal shell, which is not that efficient against mediums. While the increased AT makes up for it on paper, it might not make up for it in the context of USF. Meanwhile you look at Easy 8, which for a slight fuel premium you get superior AT compared to 76MM AP shell and as far as I know similar AI without having to swap shells. 76MM at Vet 3 in theory has a pretty high ceiling but I've found it pretty hard to get it there without struggling in the mid to the early-late game. I think you could probably help out 76MM by giving it the old Panzergren/Guards Veterancy fix by shifting/spliting it's Penetration bonuses earlier than Vet 3. That way it scales more smoothly and feels more worth it if it's your first tank. In: COH2 Balance
