This is what I've seen in low level 2v2:

They kill conscripts pretty well in early game, and can beat rifles at some ranges 1v1, which isn't true of most OKW infantry. After that, they are very good at repair and can defend flanks or maybe do some flanking.

At least what I've seen them used for, haven't gotten a chance to play OKW this patch.

I need to learn to play a bit WRT the Tiger Ace, especially on this map.

I know there's already a thread about the Tiger Ace for 1v1, but I wanted to talk about it for 2v2, specifically, with a soviet ally.

We were winning slightly against a mixed axis team, with about ~60% of the map, maybe a bit less at times.

I recently got the Rifle Commander from warspoils (first non-faceplate item in a long, long time), so I wanted to try out that easy 8 spam I heard people complaining about. Basic plan was tech only to captain, swarms of vetted rifles with bars, and then spam easy 8s. My ally went a shock doctrine with IS2.

Good points all, butter fingers. I basically stayed up all night at that point and apparently didn't have a clear grasp of what was going on even in terms of our own forces.

Instead, I think we probably should have kept it at a distance, let it drain their resources, and try to pick off its support - maybe have the easy 8s in one part of the map, and the IS2 in another. TA can only be in one place at a time, after all.

Also, I think that E8 spam is probably not a great idea if you think they're gonna go elite troops. In that case I think one should pick a strat that involves teching to a major and getting a preemptive Jackson. Or, with a soviet ally, should you just ask them to go T4 for SU85?

Am I on the right track here?

edit - if anyone is really interested, here is the replay, well, until a hotfix kills it.

If you wanna critique anything else I'm doing, I'd appreciate that as well.

Also, I just lost against a Tiger Ace, thus: Tiger Ace OP!!11!!!1!!!

Huh. I want to say I'm surprised Relic didn't notice that, but I definitely never had any idea myself that it was happening. If someone suggested that I would have thought they were crazy.

I guess because you WOULD still see vet 5 squads performing much better, even with less bonuses than they should be getting?

I don't think Relic will ever tie call-in tanks to tiers, and I don't mean to start yet another thread about it.

Rather, from a game design perspective, I had an observation about how call-ins work in this game.

Right now, you need to invest money in teching/researching in order to get the stock tanks, which are inferior tanks, usually lighter or older models. So teching gets you P4s and T34-76, not T34-85, Tigers, or ISUs.

So in the current system, if you're playing as soviets, you need to pay fuel to research a dated, inferior model of the T34, but if you wait for later, and not much later, you unlock a better one for free.

Intuitively this doesn't any sense to me, and I think the balance problems that it causes within factions are also evident.

So, anyone else think that associating inferior tanks with research barriers is just an inherently backwards approach regardless of tweaking or adjustment?

This is another pipe dream, but I think it'd work much better if the call-in tanks were things like T34-76, tanks that you unlocked for free and could maybe use to skip a tier, but doing so meant giving up a bit of fire power.

Like i said im in favour of buffing other units for soviets. Just get rid of these stupid cheese strats that are so effective and BORING!

Huh. That actually sounds somewhat reasonable.

Instead of freaking out, why not write a carefully thought out set of adjustments for the different factions?

You probably still be wrong, but you at least you wouldn't be insane.
