Thread: So... maxims...15 Sep 2014, 21:30 PM Maybe this is just in my admittedly not very competent matches, but I don't really see the issue with allied blobs at the moment. Playing as allies, my biggest frustration with random teammates is usually with people who move all their infantry in one group and then it gets suppressed and massacred, or worse, hit with a Stuka zu Fuss. I myself blob very rarely and almost always regret it quickly. So to me it feels like the axis anti-blob arsenal is pretty good. Feels fine playing with it and against it. These are rank ~2000 matches in 2v2 mode. In: COH2 Balance

Luftwaffe Supply I bought it a long time ago, before it got super broken for a few months. Mainly because it offered a new style for team games, letting one player take on a support role. Lightning War Fun fact - in the German version of the game, both this and "Blitzkrieg" have literally the exact same name: "Blitzkrieg." They also share some abilities. #CommanderBloat. Mainly to have an extra Tiger back when I didn't have access to Opel Blitz. Mechanized Assault Assault Grenadiers offer a new way of playing the game early game. Also, Tiger. I've never felt the need to get any US, OKW, or soviet commanders, but then again, I got Rifle Company in a drop, so that may explain that. In: Lobby
Thread: 4v415 Sep 2014, 17:04 PM I would much rather play 4v4 than 2v2 or 1v1, but I avoid anything larger than 2v2 like the plague since balance doesn't take those modes into account. Hopefully, CoH3 () will take the opposite approach and make balance and game design decisions with 4v4s in mind. Then we can have huge battles that also play really well, and we can scream at anyone who complains about something being too weak or too good in 1v1. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: German Trenches should not kill its garrison when destroyed15 Sep 2014, 07:07 AM I like this idea. As it is, infantry are actually more vulnerable to AT guns when placed in trenches. Maybe this change should also come with the addition of a cost to trenches? In: COH2 Balance

I have the impression maxim squads take a lot more dammage and die rather easily once flanked. Yes, they corrected maxims losing their received accuracy penalty, so they die faster now. I realize the point of the German MG is to be used defensively but it can't even do that job well. Maxims lock down and shut down entire sectors, even more efficiently when they are spammed. German MG's.. eh they are just disappointing. Especially against blobs of infantry. Often I hear the excuse "You can't expect 240mp MG's to stop 1000mp worth of infantry." Which I feel I rightfully can disagree. That's the entire point of a machine gun, to shut down a sector until it is properly flanked or sniped or destroyed with vehicles or indirect fire. Unfortunately the Maxim has proven extremely efficient in these areas while the German MG's have proven to be woefully outmatched. One maxim does not lock down an entire sector ... An MG42 is better at stopping a blob than a maxim (stat-wise), because of AOE suppression. That's a rather key pro that you're omitting. I've always found MG42s to work just fine when rifles walk straight into them, but then again, I back mine up with grens who sight for them and guard them. Even when I play as allies I like to use MG34s or 42s if I can capture them. Put one in green cover with a rifle squad to back it up/scout, and you can take a blob of obers/volks if they blunder into it from the front. That's ~500 MP taking down nearly ~900 MP worth of units ... sounds about right to me. Why don't you try using maxims yourself? Their advantage was to get tons of cheap shitty tanks that could also swarm the tougher "superior" German tanks. At least that was the vision back in Beta. It's changed quite for the worse since then imo Why even bring this up? You're aware that conscripts cost the same as grens and more than volks, right? It's courteous to do so, but they really don't. That's the trap they keep setting for themselves. Relic's logic is like A = B, C+ is overpowered, so we should just make it C or C-, but let's also make B into B+, ruining the skill based A = B dynamic and turning it into A ≠ B+ Eh, sometimes you do have to mix nerfs with buffs. Remember those months when Ostruppen were useless because their cost had risen from 120 MP to 200 MP and their performance hadn't risen to match? So yeah, it may very well be the case that cons and penals need a buff. In: COH2 Balance

Riflemen don't stand up to a lot of the stuff out there, even at vet 3 with lmgs or bars equipped, as well as conscripts and maxims. Not saying we should nerf late game OKW inf and LMG grens, and buff maxims and cons, but I'd like to find a way to balance out the early/mid/late game a little better. It's a problem that certain factions shine early game, suck late game, or rock late game, and are okay early game, etc.. Speaking as a lower level player, I couldn't agree more. If you're playing random team and you're not both excellent players, maintaining the constant early game pushing needed to win as allies is frustrating. Also, the game-stage asymmetry can make the game more repetitive. You pretty much know what you're going to be doing in early game based on which faction you are. At least that's what I find.
