Don't agree with you on much, Nightmare, including the specific issues you brought up, but I agree strongly with the general sentiment in your opening post. The game's starting to feel a little "early access" lately. I'm not sure what could change about the balance process, but at the moment it's not working that well.

"We're not really sure if this is bat shit OP or not, let's see what happens when we unleash it on ranked play, hopefully it's not or faction B is fucked for the next two weeks" is not a great policy.

I don't this really works because the factions are so different.

Suppose I play soviets, for instance, and ask myself "are snipers OP?"

If Ostheer had a soviet 2 man sniper team, it wouldn't be a big deal for the soviets to counter because the soviets would also still have 2 man sniper teams, so the soviets would still have respectable chances at counter sniping. It's still not the same situation as Ostheer facing two man sniper squads with one man sniper.

Even if we change it so "okay what if they got the unit, and then you lost it?" it still is a little wonky. Okay ... so OH gets a two man sniper, but remember that soviet tier 1 comes with a scout car that chase it down, so it's still not the same situation.

Even worse, you're now pitting the sov sniper against soviet 6 man squads.

Best way to get a feel for balance is to play all factions. If you're like me and play at a low level, watch streams of higher level play to figure out if the problems you see are imbalance or people simply not playing well.

So we are going to talk about realism then? If that's the case then JT should be able to knock out any allied tank in one shot from across the map. One Tiger should be able to knock out multiple shermans & t34s before they can even get in range to penetrate the Tiger.

I'm just commenting that in this game, JTs massacre armor, like in real life, but the things that countered them in real life are meh against them in the game - they're limited to a few doctrines, and they're mostly only useful against JTs if the player using doesn't pay attention.

Basing balance on real life is silly, but as long as we're sitting around and wondering "hey it's really hard to balance these super heavies correctly; they either get nerfed to uselessness or dominate the game," I think it's worthwhile to look to real life for inspiration, no?

I will admit that P47s are pretty decent super heavies and I've seen B4s with some good RNG work but the other abilities are pretty useless against JTs. Other problem is they are doctrinal - every unit should have stock counters.

If every faction had a stock AT strafe run as effective as the P47, I'd be a lot happier about having super heavies in the game. Not asking for a lot here.

What about soviets plus US in a 2v2? Still hopeless?

1v1 I'm going to take this opportunity of hopelessness to try some very strange strategies. First plan - RE spam into a fast M20, then zook spam and M1919 spam into spamming Jacksons.
