Absolutely not, if anything the OKW needs to be buffed since they get completely wrecked by Russians and US players at all stages of the game. I just played about 7 matches I believe and I lost all of them except one. I was in the top 10 for 2v2 ranked a few months ago for perspective, and I was in the top 40 before I lost these handful of matches.
With that being said, it's blatantly obvious that i'm not a casual CoH player nor a noob, yet I lost 400+ ranks with an "op" faction.
Playing as OKW is a constant uphill battle and even at late game, the OKW are at a serious disadvantage. To start, let's talk about the Kubel or "konigs Kubel" as people like to say. Do you guys realise that even with a sturm pioneer protecting it, an M3 can still easily destroy it? I lost all of my Kubels in the 6 games I played solely because of the M3. People are really overestimating the Kubel to be honest, and I only hope Relic restores the Kubel to when it actually served a purpose and was useful(Last patch).
Shock troops are also better than Volks and Obersoldatens especially late game. Shocks are basically the only infantry that constantly go toe to toe with my Obersoldatens and win, so Relic needs to think about either buffing the Obers or nerfing Shock troops, because currently it's a joke how Shock troops are the best infantry in the game and can easily kill Obersoldatens. I'm not a bad player and I know what to do and how units work, so you know i'm not biased when stating these facts.
If we think about this logically, the Russians have much better units than the OKW and they get even stronger as the game progresses. The same is for the Americans but they're even better than the Russians since they have the priest artillery. If there's one unit that I can blame my losses on, it's the priest artillery; it's incredibly powerful(Too strong for its price) and has extremely accurate barrages.
Here's what needs to happen in order for OKW to be relevant and balanced again:
1)Buff Volks or nerf Russian and US infantry:
This is pretty straight forward so a complex paragraph isn't needed; OKW infantry are much weaker than US and Russian infantry, so OKW needs a buff or the enemy needs a nerf. It's also a fact that German infantry in WW2 were much better than Russian or American infantry, so the change would also be historically accurate.
2)Buff OKW vehicles:
The OKW has nice vehicles but they've been nerfed to the ground with these recent balance patches and can't stand up to Russian or US armour. I think a good solution to OKW armour balance is to reduce the fuel cost of the Puma by 30, the Luchs by 20 and the Stuka and KT by 40-50. Why buy a KT when the enemy can take it out with a few Jacksons? The Stuka is also a gamble and by that I mean it's a hit or miss. On one hand, if you do land a good barrage, it's fairly powerful and a potential game changer. On the other hand, if you miss a barrage then that 100 petrol and 400 manpower you spent on it becomes useless. Making the Stuka cost 50 petrol and 300 manpower would be best I believe for a balanced game.
3)Nerf the Priest artillery unit:
As I mentioned above, the priest artillery unit is an actual game changer. All of my losses against US players have been because of the Priest; it's too good for its price and absolutely wrecks any German infantry and light/medium vehicles. The damage output needs to be severely reduced, or the cost of the Priest increased substantially.
4)Buff Obersoldatens:
Admiteddly, this is definitely a more personal request for balance change. Obersoldatens are my favourite unit in the game, but it pains me to see them lose to Shocks every time and even conscripts and US rifles. Historically, elite German infantry were the best in WW2 and it's said that one elite German soldier is worth 30 US or Russian soldiers. Unfortunately, this isn't depicted in CoH2 even though this is supposed to be historically authentic to a certain degree. Relic essentially killed the OKW's late game and only anti-infantry option last patch, so what do we have now to counter Shocks and US rifles with LMG's? Nothing.
While I might be a bit angry from my losing streak(Went from being in the top40 to rank 600+ in an hour or so), it's clear that even a veteran CoH player like myself knows that balance is against OKW both late game and early game. |
Freddy, you're very adamant about defending Dane even though he was in the wrong and acted like a tosspot. I was watching his stream when all of this happened and Marksnus and/or Dane literally banned 3 people for typing stuff like "MVDane", "kappa" or other trivial stuff.
The whole thing is comical really. You said these people ruined a good evening on Danes' stream, but what exactly is your definition of a "good evening"? Where Dane calls his opponents "cunts", "blobbing cunts", "twat" and other insults? That's one hell of a good evening if I say so myself(Sarcasm).
If Dane doesn't want to have insults thrown his way then he should lead the way and stop insulting his opponent whenever he gets outplayed.
The fact that Freddy created an account solely to defend Dane is quite something. |
R.I.P to those brave viewers. I watch Dane's stream whenever I get the chance(Mainly to watch him rage or blame units instead of admitting he got outplayed) and I have to say his stream chat is a death sentence.
For example, if you even make one joke about the way Dane lost a unit and/or engagement you'll get banned by Marksnus or one of the other mods, even if you put a "kappa" at the end. If Dane starts blaming units for losing a match and type in something like "Perhaps you just got outplayed, Dane" you'll get banned.
Honestly, I think Dane needs to take a step back and review his mods and stream rules. |
Oh god noooo! Heresy! I played the steam version of vCoH recently and i was surprised how much more i liked CoH2 not only but mostly for the lack of a British faction.
To each their own. Everyone likes to play as "their guys" so it makes sense to add the British. A lot of Americans went and bought the WFA because the US Army was added, so it would be wise for Relic to add the British Army, but rework them like they did to the US faction.
The fact that the British Empire(The UK, Canada, Australia, India and etc) singlehandedly won WW2 but don't have an Army in CoH2 is almost a crime.
I spent most of my CoH1 matches playing the British Army, so Relic not adding the British Army in the WFA forces me to conclude that CoH1 is better than CoH2. |
While CoH2(The Western Front Armies expansion to be specific) is actually fun to play, CoH1 is just simply better I think for a number of reasons.
First of all, CoH1 just feels better and the mechanics just seem to work better and dare I say flawlessly. CoH2 has improved on some of those mechanics and taken steps back as well, and CoH2 also has more bugs from my experience but not enough to severely drag down the games merits.
CoH1 also had the British Army so that automatically makes it better than CoH2 in my opinion. Relic can remedy this though by reintroducing the British Army in CoH2, by giving it an overhaul so it doesn't feel like they're copy-pasting the British faction from CoH1 into CoH2.
If we actually get off the "I hate CoH1 bandwagon" and look at CoH1 objectively, then it's pretty clear that it's a damned fine game and one of the greatest rts games ever created. Everything in CoH1 works flawlessly from doctrines, unit abilities and to map design. CoH1 also has less bugs than CoH2, but i'm inclined to believe it has more to do with the CoH2 engine than the devs themselves; CoH2 is horribly optimised due to the engine and not even Valve I think could work with the CoH2 engine and fix it.
Now, there's a number of reasons why CoH2 isn't as good as CoH1 and why Relic isn't the same anymore, but a large part of that is because the original team(Josh Mosqueira, Brian Wood and etc) isn't the same team that made CoH2. As much as I hate to say that one man really made CoH1, Josh Mosqueira was an extremely skilled developer and him moving to Blizzard(Who proceeded to lead the development on Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls mind you) really hurt Relic. The fact that Brian Wood(Another CoH1 veteran dev) died leaves not that many veteran people left that worked on CoH1. Quin Duffy comes to the top of my head as one of the few veteran developers that's still with Relic.
We also can't forget that the whole bankruptcy incident with THQ really affected the quality of CoH2 when it initially released, so there's another reason why Relic ins't what it used to be compared to their 2006-2010 version.

As one of the highest ranking players(top 5 at one point) in 2v2 ranked for CoH1, I have to say that you need a fair amount of time/games played. I have over 2200 hours of actual playtime for CoH1, so it's been relatively easy for me to get into CoH2, and won't be long before I get into the top 10 for both 2v2 ranked and 1v1 ranked.
Basically, you won't get anywhere if you only play 2 matches a week or so; you need to play a lot more than that if you want to compete in the upper echelons of the CoH2 community. |
All this change log proves is that if the Allies cry long enough, Relic will eventually nerf the Germans until they they're gutted. The only hard counter to mass rifles with LMG's is literally Obersoldaten's and walking stuka's, with the latter costing a good 100+ fuel, but now that they've nerfed the Obersoldaten, the OKW are quite simply ****** since US and Soviet infantry can move around the battlefield without fearing any hard counters(From the OKW at least).
Bad change log all around so hopefully Relic does the right thing and return German infantry to normal. |
Good changes all around. The Maxims were definitely on the overpowered side in 2v2, so i'm glad to see that I can actually flank a maxim instead of watching it turn around in less than a second to suppress my flanking squad. The health increase to the Kubel is also welcomed since it died 9 out of 10 times if it got flanked, so perhaps now I can have a bit more time to relocate it.
The only thing Relic needs to buff now is the Obersoldaten and the Jaeger Light Infantry Recon unit. |
The Rear Echelon troops are fine I think. I'v had my troops suppressed by them while rifles do the damage and/or prevent my units from closing in to take out the Rear Echelon. If Relic buffs the Rear Echelon in the next patch, then it'll be a major step backwards in the balance department. |
The only things I agree with is the Panzershrek cost being reduced and the US AA vehicle having a bit more reduced damage. Aside from those issues, the balance is good(Relatively speaking)and I don't see any reason to nerf/buff any more units for the Russian, Wehrmacht, US and Oberkommando West faction. Actually, it would be nice if the Obersoldaten got a health increase since they're supposed to be the best infantry in the game. |
