I've recently bought maxims back into my builds.

With the current heavy gren/assgren meta, they're proving pretty effective.

Set the maxim up on a choke point, and mine the flanks. Move scripts up with maxim and zis following and shooting from range...

Would it not be an option to go for shock troops asap?

I know they are more expensive, but the cons have no staying power against assault grenadiers. And I don't find the advice of using Molotovs usefull at all. The point is that assault grenadiers is going to be a blop that's constantly on the move. So Molotovs won't really Work.

So far I mostly used Maxims, but with mixed results. It means you cannot pick your battle because a Maxim will easily be overrun if its location isn't the best.

Finally, what about penals with flames? I haven't tried it, and yes, penals suck in general. But the flame upgrade ought to help here? Or what?

I just fight them with conscripts without molotovs. They cost more than conscripts and only function at close range. I just keep my conscript squads fairly close to each other and lure the AGrens into a 2v1 situation or into a building. I pick at them from long range until they start chasing me, then I kite into another conscript squad.

I would much rather face AGrens than LMG grens.

I fully agree with link0, this is what I do aswell. Use orahh to either run away or quickly draw a 2v1 situation.

You have the options to go both T1 or T2 verse them if you use your Conscripts well. I prefer T1 in general but it is map dependant.

Here's a secret for anyone interested in dealing with assgren spam, always conscript spam and keep squads in 2s as long as possible, and while capping, if he piece meals you'll be fine, if he blobs, then bring up reinforcements from nearby capping point to overpower them. If he has an even amount of assgrens to your cons like 2-2 you have a 40-60 chance of winning, adding a combat engineer you have a 65-35 chance, and a conscript 80-20(ratios with green cover). Also if you have one squad and you see 2 assgrens coming at you, if it's possible, orahh as stephen and link0 said away and meet up with another con or combat engineer squad or go into a building.

-My build usually when dealing with assgrens:
5 cons-upgrade molovs-(at nades if scout car/halftrack out(most likely be turned into flamer halftrack), then defend fuels and get T-70s to wreck assgrens as they have no at capabilities).
