How about locking volks stg44s for T3 or T4

Okw now surpasses any other faction in early game. Volks with stgs is op for its cost. Allies, especially USF face a huge chanllenge in early game, if Okw spam Volks. Though Rifles is superior to Volks after double equipped, it's too late in most circumstance. And cheaper Obers makes this even worse.
Maybe doing so can slightl
ly nerf Okw's early game surpermancy. It can also make T3 more attractive and add variety to Okw early game build.

I think Volks StG when it comes now is fine. Riflemen trump Volks at close range at min 0, and Penals scale well vs Volks as well. Although I have little experience with USF, T1 Soviets is the way to go vs OKW.

At most just remove their ability to upgrade in enemy territory (I honestly don't know why this is a thing). It's only a problem when you have Volks popping them early on the back of an early aggressive SP/Kubel play where you take a few bad engagements and have to retreat and now you have upgraded Volks camping your cut-off or fuel point.

Locking it behind Tier 3 is way too late and to not sound harsh, but an incredibly bad idea.

The STGs would come in to late then, Volks excel at the early to mid game and scale poorly with vet and lose out to vetted allied infantry. Moving it behind t3 would make the stgs arrive even after lmgs which would hurt them immensely

Volks deserve some nerfs but this isn't gonna do anything at the stage they are actually too stronk.

Penals have been nerfed, coming late and costy. I don't find it that hard to deal with penals when I
keep 1 more volks aganist them. And I actually play a T3 build now.(would call in command panther instead of building T4 for tanks when in disadvantage)

Double Engie -> Sniper OR Penal -> M3 OR Penal -> Penal -> Guards

Soviet T1 should have no problem vs Volks at all if you play it right. Penals trump pre-HQ Volks even harder than Riflemen. Sniper can make those engagements even easier, as there is no risk of counter-snipe and Kubel dive is very easily forced off by any supporting arms/M3. M3 Clowncar to force early Raketen would mean 1 less Volks. Finally, Guards to soft counter Luchs/Puma which are most likely to dive for sniper.

Alternatively, Cons + PPsH is good, but only after PPsH upgrade.

Maybe so, actually I do not find it necessay to upgrade stgs to get an advantage(dating back to years before they do not have stgs). Volks are bascally too cheap for their performance. But I don't think increse the cost is a better solution as it's a characteristic feather.(If all infs perform the same and cost the same it would be no balance problem but makes the game boring)

I don't think stgs would make a big difference to counter this strategy anyway. it's better for okw to go for 4 volks(maybe 1 kubel when counter sniper)+1 rakten(in fact it's not that necessary as SPs could upgrade panzerscherck without T2 or T3 for 70mu) before acquiring T2 or T3

Osttrupen are useless outside of cover and guess how smg squads need to engage?
