I've been working on an Italian faction mod for a bit, and I think they're workable- in the same vein as USF and soviets, they can't exceed T3- level armor units. They have good variety of interesting light vehicles and a lot of elite infantry divisions (Folgore Paracadutisti, Bersaglieri, Guastatori assault engineers, Alpini) to fill out commanders.
I too had made an Italian Faction in the official forums.
But instead of pure Italian Pasta, I made a Hybrid German Italian Faction based off of the Army Group C in the Italian Front of 1943-1945.

But if your not interested in Hybrid Technology, Grenadier in the forums made a pure Italian Idea that is pretty good Here.
