Should there be a "Search unranked games" feature?

I want to try new strats or just play vs other players but not ranked. Shouldn't there be an option to search for unranked games? In dota2 there is a "Find Ranked Match" or "Find Normal Match", and as a player you have an MMR (matchmaking rating) for each pool. Your "Solo MMR" for ranked matches is shown to other players (COH2 should do this too), and your MMR for normal matches is hidden.

I would love to have a similar system for coh2. One drawback would be that it would split the already small player pool. But a huge advantage would be that it would give many players a "way in" to multiplayer and ranked multiplayer without the pressure of having your results shown to the world. Perhaps more compstompers would try normal matchmaking. Also it would give top players a way to try out new strats w/o putting their ranked ladder positions on the line.

I agree, but not sure if it would work with the playerbase and number of simultaneous players online...

Would be cool for those guys who are not interested in a ladder or just want to play casual CoH2.

+1 It would also help break the monotony of laddering. I don't know at what rank you stop running into blobbers but it isn't coming fast enough.

Everybody would feel better if ratings continue to be hidden like it was just after release Kappa

It could allow those nervous players to get more comfortable playing 1v1 and they might transition over to ranked.

I see a lot players try 1v1, get stopped get the -1 and never come back.

Jup :)
I find it too stressful so I don't play it. Would be cool to 'testplay' it.

That's the idea. It might split the player pool initially, but in the long run it could greatly increase the player pool.

Marcus was writing a really interesting piece about this.

We got Part I, but I don't think he ever published part II.

A small part of his idea has however been implemented in the forthcoming patch i.e. the rapid descaling of players, who no longer participate. But it was his fully developed concepts about leagues and resets which remain unpublished...as if somebody has torn out the last page of a 'whodunnit'

Another solution would be to reintroduce alternate playernames (aka smurfing).

I can'tsee the problem as long as you get matched according to your rank anyway.

It would allow the top players and anyone else to fool around as Ami asks for.

im not totally against it but it doesnt seem like a good idea with how small the amount of people playing 1vs1 already is.

It would be cool, but unless your rank is really high it would be better to just lose that ladder anxiety :D

Winning proper automatch with partisans and the like makes victory that much sweeter as well. If you just want to play casually, just play 1v1 casually. Don't let ladder anxiety hurt that, it's not like your stats are shown anywhere unless you look them up.

Just make an alt + Steam family sharing :snfPeter:

Yeah I could see myself using this to practise weird builds, but it would split the community and make the laddering community incredibly niche and hardcore, so it may end up "Super hardcore" mode and "Super WTF pio spam" mode, neither of which will appeal to anyone who wants to practise properly and not get stomped.

I don't know, just putting things out there.

It would be a game changer for everybody who wants to play or plays 1v1. I can see a lot of advantages, from casual games to developing strategies.

it's a +1
