instead of the plain gray you should use the gray map with what look like roads that you have all over the site. it would look alot cooler imo.

No, it's much easier to read with plain gray.

I tried an unbelievably subtle textured background and OnkelSam vetoed it mercilessly arguing "legibility" and "ease to read." I thought it looked nice but he's right, function over form in this case.
