LoS is going to be "True sight" so the player will only be able to see what their units can actually see. (So the area of a map that is blocked by a house will be greyed out to the player.)

Right, but can you have a unit on low ground shooting at a enemy unit on high ground that is being revealed by a 2nd friendly unit on the high ground?

Line of fire would have been better post title yea.

There were no maps, AFAIK, that had such extreme height difference that we could have noticed that in Alpha. I'm pretty sure though, that it is too much of a hassle to program realistic line of fire. It could create real challenges and unintended stuff during map making.

But who knows....

If you dig a bit, Relic stated true LOS is possible with the latest essence engine, but due to gameplay reasons, it wont be enabled.
Which is fine imho.

weapons are likely to still have a bool "ignores shot blocking"... some weapons will ignore shotblocking, some won't.

as for 1 unit shooting another unit... the only thing i think where this might be applicable is the above mentioned shot block ignorers and maybe smoke... because stuff that blocks LOS usually also is shot blocking... so it wouldn't matter if i see a unit on the other side of the house, i still can't shoot it (unless i have piats, i.e.).

apart from that, true sight does allow for a lot of other very funny stuff:

imagine making a tiger tank block LOS... and maybe have 3 snipers walking behind him MVGame

Crap. At least stuff like Blitzkrieg mod will have the ability to be more realistic.

one way this is unrealistic though..
is if you are about to turn a corner..
and 1 metre away .. .around the corner are 20 giant tanks.
you'd be able to hear them coming even if you couldn't see them.

and u know that its also in CoH2 ?
source?

also, if you have 2 groups of units turning a corner you won't know which one is facing certain death. or maybe even both.

in general,
trying to "promote CoH2 for its realism" is a bad idea.

same game engine, go watch the released footage, go read the comments about coh2 etc. etc.

is that a bad thing? if you walk besides a wall in sc2, you don't know whether theres 20 siege tanks up on the high ground waiting to obliterate your army.

coh2 is infinitely more realistic than sc2 is for example.

This comment is unequivocal proof that Tychus is either an excellent troll or completely clueless.

Agreed. I'm so against the realism circlejerk in games, it kills all the fun.

Its just trolling. There is no need to pull the realism card on this one, the OP was merely asking about natural terrain blocking and line of sight.

Whether its realistic or not had absolutely nothing to do with the topic.
