There are definately situations where a KV1 is nice to have, simply because it can soak up a bit more damage. This fact gives them nice synergy with B4s because they can hold enemy troops a bit longer to give the B4 time to fire.

You can't even make a good argument why KV-1 would be better then T34/76 and get a single person to back you up with it.

I'll give it a go:

Only tank with a backwards facing weapon makes it interesting as a breakthrough

Slightly tougher than a T34

Comes in a doctrine with recon so being able to put it in the right place compensates somewhat for lack of speed

Comes in a doctrine with shocks for handling PGrens and Paks.

I'm not saying it's great, and I'd quite like it to have a buff, but it is better in it's doctrine than it is in isolation.

I think that vcoh style call in is the best, give heavy tanks 1000mp to call in and raise the CP a bit. This way, the fuel isn't being saved for call ins, so it will instead be used in teching and getting tanks from tiers. So now you can have variety and in the end, if you are winning the mp war, you can actually bring in one of the beasts to seal the deal.

I like it better the way it is, in the late-game fuel is useless enough as-is and Manpower is a premium resource. It's the reason Soviet Industry isn't popular anymore.
