Im sad to see maps for AT that includes rivers, it does not matter for me what kind of rivers even when they are smal or frozen. Even the tiny one on crossing in the woods sucks in my opinion, so why always maps with rivers?

But don´t get me wrong, your work and attention to it is respected and nice!

Rivers create a danger zone for units. In this map, the river is the fastest way to get a vehicle across the map, but also the most dangerous as a mine could ruin your day.
In Crossing in the Woods the river creates a red cover line across the map that you have to cross to attack the enemy side.
