Chinese Gamer spent US$1.3 million on video game character. Friend sells it for US$643:

You know that saying, "Gaming is life?" For this gamer, it's more than that.

Chinese gamer Lu Mou had spent a whopping US$1.3 million to develop his Justice Online character. And now he is pissed.

His friend had stupidly accidentally sold his character for US$643.

According to Chinese tech news site Abacus, Mou's friend, Li Mouscheng, had made a mistake by listing the character on the in-game marketplace NetEase after suffering from dizziness due to excessive gaming.

For those who're in the dark, Justice Online is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on Wen Rui'an's novel The Four Great Constables.

In the game, players can choose characters from up to six classes and can battle against other players and non-playable characters, go on missions, and even run a business.

Mou is so enraged that he has hauled his friend to court for his stupidity mistake.
The judge at the Hongya County Court of Sichuan Province ruled that the buyer must return the character to Mou with Mouscheng paying US$12,781 in damages to the player who purchased the character.

Yikes.

However, the court also warned Mou and his friends on the dangers of spending too much time playing these games.

The rise in addiction to video games recently led the Chinese government to issue strict curfew policies on gamers. Children below 18 have been imposed a limit of not more than 90 minutes of video game time per-day on a weekday.

For weekends and holidays, children from the world's second largest game market are no longer allowed to play more than 270 minutes. They're also not allowed to spend more than US$28.40 per-month for in-game items.

As for Mou, hopefully he learns not to share his personal video game details with his friend. Especially if you're hoping to sell your video game character for a higher price.

Which is absurd.

Counter-Strike trading found to be 'nearly all' money laundering:
Valve says it has halted trading of some in-game items in multiplayer shooter

“In the past, most key trades we observed were between legitimate customers. However, worldwide fraud networks have recently shifted to using CS:GO keys to liquidate their gains,” it said. “At this point, nearly all key purchases that end up being traded or sold on the marketplace are believed to be fraud-sourced. As a result we have decided that newly purchased keys will not be tradeable or marketable.”

I don’t feel like we’re talking about how he lent the character to his friend, who then was *trying to sell it back to him for $55,000* . Either this is a crazy money laundering scheme (or prostitution ring), or the friend is up there as Worst Friend Ever.
