Hi there, I basically just checked how my data server is doing and thought I could quickly write out the map veto stats after the recent patch. Note that in the past I found that right after the introduction of new maps, new maps actually are played relatively often and then tend to drop off after a month or two. So, take these numbers with a ton of salt (or for later reference), but here we go:

What I list are automatch games per map found from the 3rd to the 14th of November (v1):

(v2), maps picks December 4th to December 18th:

(v3): maps picks January and February 2020:

Turns out that apparently the servers screwed up on the 26th and 27th of January with maps being played that are not actually in the rotation anymore...

New round (v4), maps picks 15th March to 15h of May 2020:

I agree with this statement except for 1v1 maps. The last time we had some fresh 1v1 maps they saw little play. And maps that were heavily vetoed were getting more plays. I don't think 1v1 players want to risk their rank on an unknown map. So the new maps tend to get more spectators in game etc.

Bummer that 3v3 FOW was not in during this rotation. It quickly became a 3v3 favorite. And I look forward to seeing it up on top of the 3v3 list.

As always, Thank you SiphonX! Your stats drops are like Xmas for us all!

Special note on STEPPES: It is getting twice the plays it normally gets because Hill 400 is bugged. So players getting Steppes OR Hill 400 from the server, will end up playing on Steppes.

Yeah, I don't think the changes to Angoville and Arnhem made them much better, I still tend to have one of them veto'd at all times.

I see a lot of discussion about how the maps were not changed a lot. The goal of the map patches is not to drastically change maps. The goal is to fix imbalances. Maps that received a lot of changes, only did so because the balance was off a lot.

As an example, Should we change every 1v1 map into Crossroads. We already have a crossroads.

The November patch was originally only supposed to fix minor bugs. Luckily Sturmpanther and Andy let us do a lot more than originally planned. So some of the maps that did not get changes in the previous patch, got changes this time around. And maps that were changed before, were changed a little more to further balance them.

It should be noted that a lot of people helped with ideas about things to change and fix. Just from my personal interactions, notes came from many players like Duffman, Flappy, Ishtari, Puppetmaster, ShadowLink, Jae4Jett, Sander93, Aerafield, and many others. I think Flappy hit me up every other day with stuff to fix :P

Since we are talking map patch here, I think it is very important to show some appreciation for Sturmpanther. This patch was supposed to be a couple maps with bug fixes. Due to real life obligations, Sturmpanther did not even have time for a small patch, but he committed to it. Six months later we had something like 28 maps updated :S So big thanks go out to Sturmpanther for this patch. Hopefully RL slows down and he can do another patch someday.

I am still definitely grateful for the map patch as you guys aren't getting jack for all of this work, I just wish Relic would have been more serious about this game a long time ago instead of relying on the community to do most of the heavy lifting. Still thanks to Sturmpanther and everyone else for putting the time in that most wouldn't.

Sorry Clarity, I did not mean to imply that you were who I was talking about. Just in general, a lot of chatter has been "maps could be changed a lot more than they were". And I do not think its ever posted what the goals are, so just wanted to get some info out there for people who were wondering.

No one tried to change maps. Just fix glaring issues. To some, that means changing the whole map :P And to them we apologize for letting you down.

I did not look close enough to the map stats at first, but looking deeper:

The 1v1 map pool seems to be the most balanced for plays at the moment. Casually browsing SPECTATE, I see this as well. Most maps are being played and the ratio from least played to most played is pretty close. 2272(most) to 1387(least) games played. Almost a 2:1 ratio.

The 4v4 map pool is the farthest off due to community hate for Vielsalm. Here we have 4903(most) to 876(least) games played. Which is almost a 5:1 ratio.

It guess it could be argued that the 1v1 maps are closer because they are ALL bad. But the top few maps get a lot of love so I would disagree.

As we speak there are several mappers working on new 1v1 maps. But we really could use more 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 maps.

I think Wuffya said he had a plan for a 2v2 and 4v4 possibly.
Kpens new 1v1 could be made into a 2v2 map.
RickieRifle is working his magic on a 1v1, maybe stamp it into a 2v2?

If anyone in the community has any thoughts or wishes, check those maps out and speak your mind.

I put the same numbers in the original post as well, so that you don't have to scroll through the thread to find the values (I might want to add new numbers in a few weeks or so). The old numbers are in the spoiler in the original post.

Sorry, I guess this was more confusing than helping. I added some header tags to make this more obvious in the original post.

Except for the 6,000 games that were played on them recently. We will ignore those people :foreveralone:

But I have to thank you for getting people talking about the maps. There has not been much chatter about them.

The most important thing about these stats is that maps balanced by Sturmpanther have the highest player satisfaction. I think he should be responsible for all map balancing from now on. I hope he is not busy Kappa

Yes, why not ignore the minority?

These people couldn't care less, people don't chose what map they play on, that's what it's all about.
But you can just go and ask GCS contenders their opinion on bayeux for instance, I'm sure you will find nothing but favorable feedback on this map that everybody has put a veto on...
