2v2 on Road to Kharkov

Overview: Interesting game with probably not the best counters to make my way through some tough fights early-game.

Started off ok - pushed my enemy player off the VP and ammo point. Thought I had a decent enough position to help my ally in mid. Turns out I didn't and had to rout all of my forces, losing my mg in the process. From that point forward, it was hard for me to get a strong foothold on my side of the map. The OKW player I was facing had two mgs since he called one in and was able to steal mine after I lost it. For some reason, I thought a sniper would be the best counter since I needed to push those off and the wehr player already mortars. I thought placing my own mortar pit would be very susceptible to an enemy flank and/or the wehr mortar half-track with flame strike.

After I was able to scare off an mg, I noticed that the enemy was starting mass a lot of infantry. But since I was behind in tech and resources, I chose to get a carrier with the WASP upgrade. Somehow, that did the trick and I was able to push their mgs even further off. Again, due to the heavy amount of infantry, I went the commando commander so I could start having some strong AI and also so I could start taking back some map presence. Worked out OK though as I was able to inflict some losses on his side thanks to the commandos going deep (although, I dove too hard and ended up losing the squad).

I finally built a cromwell as I needed to remove the schwerer base where it was deployed. As I began to attack it with my tank and AT gun, a panther rolled around and onto my mine. Wasn't able to destroy it, but thats when they decided to give up. So. Yay!

Some things I think helped me this game:

  • Keeping my cool - Even though I was losing in the beginning, not freaking out really helped keep me calm and prevent loss of further units. As the enemy became overly aggressive, things started to work in my favor.
  • Not doing too many things at once - I did try to do too many things at once in the beginning, trying to help my ally in mid. But after I realized how poor of a choice that was, I just focused on my side of the map. This actually made my ally somewhat mad as he requested help on his side during a lot of the early game fights. However, in attempt to stay calm and not spread myself thin, I chose not to. This ended up working in our favor though as I was able to eventually face the enemy on my side, even pushing him off his own fuel point.
