I watched this replay. Why did you build an early game mortar in 1v1? Against Pgren spam you really need smoke grenades to close in. Probably should have screened that M5 a little better. Though the late teching AT is what really killed ya. Personally I'd have gone Jackson, M8A1, and another 50 cal instead of Shermans on that map.

Against Pgren spam you really need smoke grenades to close in.

I think he means teching grenades so that REs and LT have smoke for the 2/3 MG42s. I think.

Yep you'll usually see double MG going with a stall like that appeared to be. The smoke is helpful for that and if the Panzergrenadiers are in cover. Smoke is a good tool (with slightly better numbers) where flanks may be hard to pull off and you don't want to invest in a mortar or side tech Pack Howie. Grenade tech makes way more sense against Ostheer
