"The Dynamic Commander Mod is a mod for 1v1 that aims to specifically breathe new life into the Seasonal Map Cup, and therefore the competitive scene"

I struggle to 100% follow what's happening with this, no offence intended. This is what I gather: so Seasonal Map Cup is a tournament series where players make maps with Tric and play on them in a series of four qualifiers based on the seasons - all building to a final tournament?

Now a team of people have made the custom commander mod (looks amazing), but for now its purpose is to "breathe life into the Seasonal Map Cup"?

Is this something that specifically needs life breathing into it, like are you slightly re-purposing ideas already in place? Or by SMC team do you mean you and your referees? Are they who made the mod too? Is SMC team a brand rather than just a tournament?

What I'm getting at is I hope we see Dynamic Commander Mod in its own tournies also! that would be very coool! Also is this a mod that we can play ourselves, or is it in a period of exclusivity?

This mod will be seen only in SMC tournaments since its exclusive to the tournament. And in order to play the Dynamic Commander Mod, you will have to be one of the participants. As for now and the far future the mod won't be public and will be only for the players that attend the SMC tournament.

Also I've heard rumors that the people would have to pay for this mod to play it in the future? Is that true?

No, these rumours are false. The only way to play the Dynamic Commander Mod is by participating in the SMC tournament.

As for this referee, I had no input

So what happens after a year once the mod exits alpha/beta stage, does the mod become available to the whole community thus allowing itself to breath life into the community? Or what I know already about the mod is all false even tho the information came from the creators and organizers mouth himself. "dont wanna spread miss information, just want clarification"

We don't plan to release the mod to the public now and probably not even in a year. We want to keep in unique to the SMC tournament so most likely the mod will never be released to the public.
Access has been a hot debate, and sadly this will not be public any time soon. - SMC Team

If mod will be released in public it would lose its unique form. :thumb:

Thats a real shame to be honest, this mod has so much potential for SMC and the community as a whole. I compare this mod to Auto Chess of Dota 2. Ohh well, guess i'll have to watch it. FeelsBadMan

IMO the mod deserves more love and more atention to the tourneys, the games with it are somewhat always... different, as any ability can be banned or choosen and gives a lot of flexibility in gaming, lets just hope that someone will hack you sooner or later and release mod for public :romeoMug:

That is like if I made Crossroads and only people who played in my tournament could enjoy that map for that tournament, and I decided to keep the map away from the public forever. People would, in the end, not care much about Crossroads, nor should they in this case. What it would have brought to the COH community would never be knowable. That would be a very strange decision.

I'm curious why put this much work into something that the vast majority of people can only watch and never play?

Also if people aren't going to be able to play this mod, why should anyone care about it?

My sense is you guys are shooting yourselves in the foot with that decision, am I wrong?

These are honest questions, thanks!

Yeah i think this could be for alot of people alot of fun in custom games.
Also i see possibility to use it in other cups as well.
Is it working for 2vs2 as well?

The thing is that we want the Dynamic Commander Mod to be only for the SMC tournament.
Sadly the mod supports only 1vs1 and will never support team games just because logistically it would be impossible to make.

Every single question you asked is answered in the FAQ and the video.

Yes you are wrong. I genuinely don't understand how you think that 1 map is somehow comparable to our mod, that was made for two entirely different purposes. Outside of that we are still testing, we have to work around the new commanders being released soon. Would you put a brand new map you have never tested into rotation?

Originally this mod was meant to release with the Winter Season of SMC, but because of delays and lack of access to full mod tools and time, it was delayed.

Yes. 4 seasons, new maps each season, grand-finals in December.

The term "breathe life" into SMC was to make it what I always wanted SMC to be, a showcase of modders and mappers, the most ignored and put down group in this community, and we were finally able to do that, despite not launching on time due to how many issues came with making the mod.

Referees were not asked about what was going on for the most part, despite being part of SMC as a Team. This was mainly due to not really ever seeing them active in this last season, which is partly on me, due to not trying to contact them constantly to help out every month and still keeping it largely under-wraps.

SMC will be a "brand", and that was always its destination, it will also cover more than just CoH 2 in the future. The plans are already in place, legally we are just tidying a few things up before hand, but it has always been stated that it will cover more than just CoH 2.

The dynamic commander mod is in a tourney of its own (two technically), but they are played on SMC maps, for a "two birds with one stone" effect, both maps and mod need tested, and both are created by us. If you mean something different to that, there are no plans to have that done as it is a "period of exclusivity" for multiple reasons as stated above, but I will reiterate them here: Testing (plenty of issues with lack of full mod tools), patching and balancing (new commanders = new abilities that we will have to work on including and getting to function properly), and the fact that we wanted this to be run in tangent with SMC from the get go.

Now for a general response:

Now with all of the above being said, due to us not charging for access, we will still be giving people access as time goes on to select individuals. I have said on stream multiple times, that the sheer feedback we would receive by making this public would be astronomical, and we would miss a lot of it, which is something we don't want to happen. On top of that a lot of the bugs that would be reported would be reported wrongly, causing us to go on wild goose chases for bugs we can't replicate due to them being reported wrong and potentially leading us to find fixes for things that aren't there, and in turn cause more bugs/issues. Currently a small focus group is the best way to go, and we plan to include more people with each passing season, the deal being that of course it stays exclusive to SMC, the mod isn't streamed anywhere but on SMC official channels, or put up on youtube. This is again for exclusivity reasons, why would we give this away to every one else, when we ourselves get nothing for it? We didn't even hit our funding goal for the first season of SMC, so right now this is serving as hopefully something for the community to rally behind content wise, as SMC before the mod was a huge endeavor, now even more so. In the FAQ it states that we don't plan to release it fully "ever", which I have updated, this was just a mistake on my end simply due to the insane sprint that I have been on the last two weeks trying to prepare for SMC Spring, I would like to think that we will have the mod and all fixable bugs ironed out by the time the Grand Finals hit for SMC, and we could make it public then, but no guarantees on this, it really is and ultimately, will be up to the SMC team. As stated, we have full support from Relic to never make this public if we choose to do so.

I really just wanna play a custom commander mod like the one Relic were making 3 years ago, that was CoH porn for me, excuse my ignorance but is there anything like that on steam workshop? I don't even care if it's not as cool as this one.
