A game that is like the COH-series?

Me and my friend would like to play a game similar to Coh and Coh2. We (are oldies) played the Age of empires series and liked that very much. We have been really in to coh2 so we havent updated our knowledge of what games are out there. We are mostly in to multiplayer. Which game should we try?

AoE2 still has a huge community with 120k$ tourneys. You can either play it on steam (AOE2 HD version) or on voobly. On voobly are the best players. You can use a little programm to play with HD version on voobly as well.
It is highly competitive and a great multiplayer game with a lot of strats. No matter if you play 1v1 or 4v4

If your looking for something close to CoH2, I'd go for nigo's suggestion of Men of War Assault Squad (either 1 or 2) or even Wargame European Escalation its pretty good too. Both are two of my favourites to spend time in when I'm away from CoH.
