I can't understand why they can't make a single movie where it shows actual conventional millitary tactics being used. All movies have to have some kind of hollywood bullshit in them.

But it's a Russian movie...

I'd love a Band of Brothers style Stalingrad movie though, or hell maybe even Flags of our Fathers / Letters from Iwo Jima style telling both sides. And name one of 'em Rattenkrieg :P

I've yet to see a realistic and unbiased film from the Soviet perspective... very sad...

When I saw that part the first thing I had to think off was 300. The slow motion fighting looks pretty similar and it's probably just as 'historically accurate'.

look it's the MTV version of stalingrad! I love ww2 movies but could watch anymore after first 15m 0/10 movie indeed. Better grab a clip from "Brest fortress" for close combat russians...

On topic:

The absence of close combat doesn't bother me with coh2 - the added lethality of close range firearms makes up for it

While I don't think melee fits in as well as DOWII which has jump units, I would like to see a Sergeant as a squad upgrade on some infantry units especially Combat Engineers to bolster their dps, life total and model count.

I was also thinking "No Land Beyond the Volga" for the Soviet side, but that works better, it fits with the theme of 'this was an awful battle from all perspectives'. I like it.

Melee combat? This is something I see aplicable between players, not in the game :D

The invention of firearms made all forms of melee combat increasingly obsolete. That is not to say that there was no melee during world war 2 but the numbers of casualties by melee weapons just pales in comparison and should be rather negliable.
