Soviet Shock Army in T4? Shocks, ppsh's, 120's, ML-20. - On maps like Steppes it might be tier 4 but on City 17, Lienne Forest, etc, it seems much better than that. The worst part about it is Relic's decision to give everyone CAS which makes it hard to use ML20.

Well everything in Shock Army is so gardening expensive that if you are actually using everything in it you can't really afford very much of anything else and you'll have an army lacking AT and armour

Shocks, 120mm Mortar, ML-20 are all manpower heavy, and if you are getting Cons with PPSH they are going to bleed from getting into CQB

If you are on the right map and/or in a team that can cover the other bases then fine, but that makes it quite situational and it lacks any call in tank of it's own or anything that helps to fight Axis armour.

More experienced players, might have a different list but that's why it's an overall tierlist.

I created the topic (http://www.coh2.org/topic/33573/commanders--an-overwhelming-amount-of-options) because I was looking for something like this.

And now here it is, you have my thanks!
This will be a great help for me to focus my learning of the different commanders.

And to be honest, debating the commander list and personal preferences in the comments will only help me more, so please do continue! :D

This will need updating

However it will take a while for the meta to settle down before any real judgement can be made

Nice thread.
A link for each Commander listed would be also nice. ☺

Heavy Tank Commander's got nerfed, so (Shock Rifle Frontline Tactics, Armored Assault Tactics
Assault Support Doctrine, Mechanized Assault Doctrine, Lightning War Doctrine, Spearhead Doctrine) 1 Tier worse imo. ☟

Again nice guide. 10/10. ☺

pls update with preliminary placement of new balance or big old spoiler as to the outdatedness of the guide.

As for the preliminary placement, one can add little green pluses or red minuses next to commanders to indicate the general movement we can expect when the thing is updated. Probably off below with a clear indicator in order not to interfere with the current chart and confuse people even more

Edit: If not, it doesn't really matter. We can wait :D

You will have to wait, Jaedrik.

Two of the authors are on leave and the third has his hands full with other forum business. ;)

Yeah, I am committed to keeping this up to date, but we had two patches in two months, I am away right now and then the Brits drop so I am not updating this until at least late September

As always, I'd love for this to be updated in accord with the new meta and commanders, but I know there are complications, obscurities, and difficulties :D

I know there's another patch incoming, but nonetheless it would be great to see this updated. Especially if some pro players would decide to drop their 2 cents.

I think Rifle Company should be Tier 1 and Airborne Tier 2. OKW Elite Armour is much more viable since Sturmtiger change and they are borderline OP against Brit who use emplacements.

I think you guys should reconsider all pak43 commander placements. Every single pak43 ostheer commander is rated super low and it is not even mentioned that it has the ability while OKW fortifications are placed high with reasoning that the commander has said unit with mines, bunkers and mgs that ostheer also has cheaper or better.

I understand that the guide assesses commanders not army strength but it looks like okw with T1 commander was worth same as ostheer with T4 commander.

I'm sorry but where is there a super rated Pak43 ostheer commander? Not one of them is above tier 3, and the highest defensive rating for a pak43 ostheer doc is..... A "super" (average)3.

Fortifications has a 4 for defense(mainly because it gives OKW things for defense that they normally wouldn't have in S-mines, pak43, and MG) and is in tier 2, only slightly higher than joint ops.

YESSSS UPDATE HYPE

Typo in Elite Armored with the :) smiley instead of :okayguy:
typo in FAQ where the question / answer about updates is glommed into the answer about the romeo mug emote rating.

1)Armored Assault don't have Conscript repair kit.
2) "Ml20 howitzer brings a strong offense late game" sounds like trolling.
3) Anti Infantry have Reserv army icon.
4) "Strong defensive infantry...hit the dirt PPSH-Conscripts" sounds like trolling.
5) Combined Arms Army and Shock Army have same icon.
6) Tank Hunters don't have Mark Vehicle. No one word about salvage kit.
7) Tactical Support don't have Mortar Cover.
8) Elite Armour: ...Vehicle detection is a Decent ability that allows you to detect tanks... However: OKW has the IR Halftrack, so you can use that instead...
Wrong. Vehicle detection shows ALL MINIMAP, IR Halftrack shows only nearby himself.
